BlueMoon
Luminlay side dots is a small step in the right direction, I’d say. The overall package is pricey though!

Kev
Phew. After all that, I'd let Innovation at least have the rest of the afternoon off.
LeftyJ
Graphite-reinforced quartersawn maple neck, ebony board, 10-14" compound radius, Luminlay side dots, new noiseless pickups, redesigned preamp with 3-band EQ, switchable mid frequency and a passive tone control, and the S-1 switch is back for choice between active and passive. Wow! I guess you could call it pretty cutting-edge... FOR A FENDER. What really got me though was the bit about "unparalleled access to the upper register". Yes, if you exclude anything out there with 24 frets and deeper cutaways. Which is a LOT of other basses. asingardenof
At this price point they're basically competing with Sadowsky and Sandberg for this style of instrument, neither of whom I'm sure are particularly concerned.

tauzero
9 hours ago, Grahambythesea said: innovations don’t sell. There’s a history of disasters - Starcasters ( nice to see Snow Patrol using one on Strictly), auto tuners on Gibsons, the weird Roland midi bass, Rickenbacker 5 string basses, Gibson basses designed after 1970, need I go on. If you’re running a business, you need to make things that sell. Failures don’t make profits. Ibanez EHB, Cort Space?
tauzero
Not that I'm in the market for one anyway, but Fender appear to have ignored 5-string players.

There is a 5 string jazz in the Ultra II lineup. It'd be nice to see a 5 string meteora though.

I expect the neck dive is bad enough on a 4, with a MASSIVE Fender style 4+1 headstock it'll probably be terrible...
Chiliwailer
Going against the vicious tide here (😀), but I really like the new spec - ‘innovation’ marketing bullsh17 aside of course - but it’s a real nice combo of specs for me, ymmv… 🫣 Awesome to see Joe Lally in the P Bass vids. If I hadn’t just bought a Fender Flea Active I would have been quite tempted - I was impressed the Flea has a quartersawn neck and it’s good to see it on these too. I got very lucky, posted a wanted advert and @hiram.k.hackenbacker sold me his. Don’t want to rub it in Chris, but I’m having so much fun with it, the tone is outrageous and just makes me think of his live tone, and some tunes from Dream Canteen. The pickup is very well designed IMO. I only bought it as my other basses have flats but I like to jam to RHCP with rounds sometimes - so job done 👌

neepheid
Something just occurred to me - this is "innovation"... for Fender. Seen in their own bubble (the "Fenderverse"?) these changes could be seen as "innovative"? I'm trying to be nice here. 1

Yeah, I mentioned similar in conversation yesterday, must be a total echo chamber at Fender HQ. I wonder if anyone will do anything radical there today like having pickle on a cheese sandwich! Groundbreaking!
