Your favourite stuff to play

From our current setlist, I always particularly enjoy playing the two Creedence "Rain" numbers (Have You Ever Seen The Rain & Who'll Stop The Rain) when me and Mr Drums really lock together.

In a bid to re-aquaint myself with the fretboard and to get my old fingers moving Ive discovered a ton of new Big Band arrangements on YT complete with charts. I'd forgotten just how ferocious some walking lines can get... phew. Good fun.

I put down my fretted and use my fretless in back to back songs in our first half:

Talk Talk 'It's my Life'

then Don Henley's

'New York Minute'

two of my absolute favourite fretless pop bass lines 😎

When we were playing I loved playing anything as I was also the singer. I especially loved it when I mastered a bassline that had a bit of complexity and could sing over it.

We only do two covers, but I enjoy 'em both!

First, there's "Don't Dictate" by punk legends Penetration - I play it with a mashed up section of Cameo's "Word Up" which works very well.

We also do Dead Kennedys' "Moon Over Marin". As we're a 2 bass band El Rapho plays a relatively straightforward version of the bass line, but I play it as if it was Magazine's "Song From Under The Floorboards", which also seems to work.
