Is JF Capo worth waiting 20 weeks?

Hellow

So need a great portable pre to take to recordings. In my studio I use a valve pre by thermionic culture called The Rooster which is amazing but it's not portable most of the time.

So... Looking about... The Noble pre seems to have gone up by 1K since the last time I looked.... The jf Capo seems like the one... 20 weeks wait though.... Is it worth it?

Let me know what you think

Thanks in advance

While both being on trend the Nobel is a clean valve pre, the capo is a solid state saturation/drive pre …. What kind of thing are you after?

also…

Yeah I know... Thing is I need something "good" and portable that doesn't cost 2k. I would go with the noble if it wasn't that price...

I'm sure it was 1k a year or so ago...

No, I don’t think it’s worth the wait.

Having bought and sold one twice.

I think if you look through all the rave reviews on the forum, they’ve all since sold it.

Ian Allison is no longer using it on his small board, Rocco Palladino only uses the pre/clean out, Tim Lefebvre is using a quad cortex live (for now at least).

It’s good, but it’s not magic

Radial JDI is both good and portable… it really depends what you’re trying to do!

I just want a super good portable di that doesn't cost 2k ... I'll check that and the shootout ... Ideally I'd have the rooster or the noble

Check out the Sonic Farm 2di4.

I've owned nearly every Di that is out there including the Nobel and have sold them all.

The Sonic Farm is clean but adds a little valve magic to the bass sound. Just the right amount of colouration.

Hope this helps.

Definitely getting some gas for that one, however, it's a half U rack size no? I need a pedalboard friendly thing unfortunately, otherwise I might as well bring the rooster...

I bought one last week from here and it’s already proved itself really handy. Been using it all week in the studio and I’ve got a load of really useable tones from it. Really finishes off the signal chain nicely. Been recording a combination of the clean DI plus the line output straight into an amp. Sounds great.
They come up all the time on here. I didn’t want the long wait and had a load of recording coming up so I pounced on the first one that came up and was local. Really glad I did.

Been using my Capo for almost 2 years, wouldn’t gig without it. Whether you want to wait 20 weeks for one depends on your patience! 😀

The Noble has gone up the last couple of years but not gone up by 1k, it’s 1279USD currently, it was definitely never 279USD sadly.

As a Noble user, I was looking for something that hit the spot for me when I couldn't take that out. I've owned a Capo for a little while, and while i liked how it sounds, I found it a little too sensitive and would end up endlessly fiddling with the EQ. I've ended up with a Caveman BP1c (of which there are some for sale on here!). It sounds similar to the Capo on the settings i liked, if not better, and is hard to mess up! And the biggie is that when i have that and not the Noble, I'm not bummed out! Hope that helps...

I'd recommend looking at the Shiftline Olympic MKIIIS for sale on here. I'd put them in a similar tonal bucket and with an effects loop, but with tubes, a headphone out and IRs. The 12V requirement is a bit tricky but it's a very good bit of kit. The price is excellent too.

This is next on my list but I’d get the big one.

Working through what I do and don’t like on my JHS Punchline currently

I loved the Capo. Such a good utility pedal. In the end, I replaced it with the Shiftline Olympic, which worked for me better.

Since then, I've moved on to the Quad Cortex but still use my Shiftline Olympic captures for everything.

Both are great though.
