I’d normally have been all over this- but I had one of those Marshall dbs cabs. Totally impractical for anything other than very large venues and arenas. On top of this I had trouble selling it on because of this.
amazing head and the mbc 410s are great cabs but…..

Surely if you are playing larger venues and arenas the PA and foldback will be more than adequate for FoH and on-stage monitoring, notwithstanding the fact that you'll probably be using IEMs.

Plus I haven't worn jeans with any material that could flap since the mid 70s, and if I was that loud I'm be even more deaf than I am already.

I've always worn slim fit/skinny jeans - in my youth I knew things were cooking on stage when I could feel the pressure waves on my jeans😆 - I used two Trace Elliott 4x10's and an AH300SMX.

No wonder I have tinnitus now...

Not tried one of these, but I have had Marshall bass heads. Never seemed to be able to get the tone I wanted, they seem like one trick ponies to me.

Ampeg are also somewhat one trick ponies, but it's a much better trick.

I've still got my VBA400 - I love using it, but only use it sparingly now with my GS412 in larger venues, I do like the tonal variations available and wouldn't class it as a one trick pony - each to their own of course 🙂

Yes of course you are correct, It might have just been the particular model I bought, funny how that changes your views of everything, I should be less short-sighted :) Maybe I should look at them again, although I admit to being an Ampeg fanboy. Massive silver thing it was, 400 watts but no punch at all, can't remember the exact model.
