musicbassman Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 I'd never heard of Geordie Greep until a couple of weeks ago. He was the guitarist/frontman with a band called Black Midi. His first album has just been released, and it's the most interesting new material I've heard for a good while. Difficult to pick one track - (it's all on YouTube) - as each track is so different. Here's a track called 'Blues' which maybe gives you a taste. You'll have to watch it on YouTube as it has the dreaded f-word in the lyrics (just once, I think) 2 2 Quote
WinterMute Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 Sounds like the bastard child of Frank Zappa and King Crimson, but slightly less musical... I like a man unafraid of a complicated lyric. 1 Quote
Blue_floyd20 Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 Yeah, talented guy. Individually I love Black Midi's stuff but it can be tough going after a few tracks, in some part due to his vocals. I was excited to watch their Glastonbury set a couple of years back but it became a tough listen as the grooves are in such short spells. 2 Quote
miles'tone Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 @musicbassman thank for the heads up. Never heard of them but I like this. More research is now taking place! There's definitely an essence of Zappa going on (you know what I mean? You know what I mean? 😉) but done in an original way. This is a good thing. Ta 👍 2 Quote
Grooverjr Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 I've just done the same thing of finding out about him through an article and going to the album. Very much enjoying it although there are a few duds on there. Blues is an absolute showstopper, though. Maybe the best new thing I have heard this year (new as in new to me and released this year). Skybone Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 (edited) Wondered what had happened to Black Midi, there was a big buzz about them a few years ago, then it all went quiet. Must give Geordie Greep a listen. Edited October 12, 2024 by Skybone Quote
Bolo Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 I feel this avant-garde thing has been done and was rightly left in the past. 1 Quote
