MrLally
Howdy  So my band are talking about experimenting with lower tuning...specifically drop A so they can use their baritone guitars. If if put this set of strings on my musicman stingray am I going to destroy it. 🤣
Doctor J
You'll be grand, but that low A might be a teeny tiny bit big. I use .60, .80, .107, .145 tuned AEAD on my 34" ESP Jazz. The low A is super-solid at that gauge but you are getting close to being able to tie ships to the dock with it 😀
Doctor J
To answer your question... You'll need to do a bit of work on the nut to properly seat the strings and most likely a truss rod tweak and intonation set, but it's all simple to undo. You won't destroy the bass. Â This is the ESP in action in low A. Â Â

Bolo
I use DR strings DDT5-55 to tune my Stingray 5 to AEADG. Zero issues.
SteveXFR
I used to play drop A# on a Stingray. I used the bottom 4 strings out of a 5 string set with a .130 lowest string. You'll have to file the nut and bridge to get the heavier strings in and it'll need a set up. I found the pickup height had to be spot on and there was always a big tonal difference between the highest 2 stings and the lowest 2. I ended up replacing it with a 5 string multiscale Ibanez which did the job much better.
