Rather torn about this and certainly not overly keen to sell, but I bought it recently to do a better job than a Status Jazz in an RHCP project but I think I prefer the Jazz. I'm selling for slightly less than I paid, c'est la vie. Trade-wise I'd like a decently large amp, Boogie, Ampeg, WHYG?

This has a forearm contour that I assume is a modification (as opposed to factory), but as you can see, has been very well done.

I can get to London or most of SE (or beyond) for a handover, I'd really prefer not to post, especially for we're doing a trade.

… there’s a good reason Flea goes between a Jazz and a MM type…

Keep both.

I'm going to experiment with the Status neck on a Jazz body routed for an MM PUP, I love the tone of the Ray, I love the playability of the Status neck 👍

I appear to be running low on file storage but there's a load of photos of the bass on the recent Reverb listing here

I'll add a few until my storage is exceeded :)

Back of body in very goo condition

Some scratches around neck/headstock joint

Details plus some inevitable headstock wear for a 20-year old bass

OK, doesn't look it's best in tort, but this is a pretty decent instrument that's not only iconic but moving towards vintage. The only thing I think could make it better would be the installation of a John East MMSR preamp with sweepable mids, but other than that, to all intents it has the feel and tone of a nice early Stingray.

Do I think it's better than an EBMM Stingray? Certainly better than some I've owned 👍

  • 1 month later...

Having just bought a stupidly expensive and very very rare dream instrument, I'm happy to take offers on this for a week or so, after which I think I'm going to put this and a few other basses on consignment sale which seems to increasingly be the easiest and most trouble free way of doing things (sadly) 👍
