MrLally
Hi peeps Had a stringray for awhile and could never get it to sound good. Put some new strings on it and got it sounding loads better except for the E string. It's dead and lifeless and has much less volume than all the other strings. Looking at the pickup the pole under the string is much lower than the ones under the A D G strings. Any ideas if this can be raised up? And if so and one got a video demonstration. Thanks Matt 😊
Chiliwailer
That’s normal for a Ray, regarding the pole piece on the E. I think it’s much more likely to be something else, for example a duff string or issue with the nut or saddle. If you are still unsure about the pole, try little magnets first before perhaps wrecking the pickup, as some people have done that on the G string in the past. Good luck 👍 Edited October 16 by Chiliwailer
MrLally
I'm really not sure this is normal. It sounds very muted and is about 1/3 the volume of the other strings. I've contacted musicman to see if they have any ideas or possibly just buy a new pickup.
Kev
Just to check the obvious, are you getting this with multiple "E" strings you've tried?

And again, an issue with the nut or saddle could deaden a string. All worth looking at before buying a new pup.
