uk_lefty
So, you know when you nonchalantly chuck an eBay bid on something not expecting it to get accepted... Forget about it.... Then find an email saying PayPal is taking money off you to pay eBay and you have no idea what for??! That's how you end up with this. Keep in mind I am big fan of jazz basses and stingrays. It's in a bit of a state. I have no idea if it even works. The fretboard needs a clean, well the whole thing does tbh. Going to unscrew every part, clean and rebuild over the next few weeks. No idea if it will be a keeper or not.
NigeJ
That's cool. Any idea what it is/was? Reminds me of a Jackson Kelly....

I think it's from a kit, for various reasons... Hardware is average to poor, pickups unbranded and not working, no shielding, screws are odds n sods and the paint job is very poor. uk_lefty
I bought some Squire pickups because the ones that came with it are dead. I've disassembled it ready to strip it down and rebuild. I think it may have been a kit bass. The paintwork is... Unusual. I'm not sure if it's gloss or emulsion. Luckily I have a power sander.
Stub Mandrel
Reckon you can have some fun doing that up with a wild paint job.

Yeah, I was thinking about going to town on it with the paint but I could also do a vinyl wrap thing, might be more successful.... I will investigate. Nothing shall happen quickly anyways

Stub Mandrel
My B2 solution (I tried 'carbon' wrap, and both blue and silver metallic finishes first...) was 'stone paint'.
uk_lefty
It looks a bit different now...
uk_lefty
It looks better from a short distance away... Vinyl wrapping is easy to do but hard to do perfectly. I still need to clean up the fingerboard, probably treat it with some Monty's wax or such like and then wrap the face of the headstock before refitting everything. I've got black individual string bridge pieces on order, I will transplant the wiring loom from my Harley Benton bass which is receiving an upgrade, and add in the Squire pups I bought. The tuners seem ok so they can stay.
uk_lefty Posted Friday at 15:53 Author Share Posted Friday at 15:53 Progress has been slow. I only recently moved house so tools are being used for all kinds of jobs and I have no idea where my soldering iron or hand drill are! I've got a wiring upgrade for my Harley Benton jazz and will transplant the electronics from that into this bass. I've completed the vinyl wrap of the body but it was quite difficult on the pointy edges. My single string bridge has arrived so I need to fit that while also remembering to leave some room for the earthing connection. The fretboard needs a light sanding down and I already have the Monty's wax to try and do something to perk up the fretboard. I have also misplaced my adjustable spanner so I can't yet get the tuners off to vinyl coat the headstock... I know what I'll be doing tomorrow.
