Sunn Mustang Precision Bass.

Just got my old Sunn Mustang P Bass back I loaned it out years ago to my friend and low and behold he turned up with it out of the blue, I can honestly say I had literally forgotten about it and thought I’d never see it again lol, it’s still plays okay and I reckon after a bit of TLC it’ll be okay for a second bass, bit buzzy acoustically but can’t hear it with headphones, needs a new set of strings and set up but a pleasant surprise.

I know there just a cheap Bass but it’s probably getting on 40 year old so definitely a vintage vibe going on, unfortunately it’s one of the original models with no truss rod but we’ll see how it turns out, fingers crossed, chuffed to bits it’s turned up after all these years.

My first bass was one of those. Weighed roughly the same as Geoff Capes! 😄

I had one of these too, on loan from a mate, and he’d set it up really well, it played great. I later had a matching Sunn Mustang Strat copy that was decent too. They were both Fender affiliated? Or am I thinking of something else?

Think they were licensed Fender instruments made in India or the far east.

Licensed by Fender they bought out the Sunn Factory in 85, so a bit of Fender history in them.

Yep, a mate of mine at school had a Sunn Stratocaster and this is what he told me about it.

If it has truss rod adjustment at the heel, a boxy string tree, white pups, a rosewood fretboard and weighs more than a house, it'll be an Indian one made in a Fender factory. Also sold as the Encore E83 in the UK and Squier II P Bass in the USA. They are all the same bass guitar.

Same as the one I have just got back after all these years, mines black. Made in India, no bullet truss rod, but it’s a tad too heavy for me, so will be moving it on at some point.

My black ones are too heavy too, although the more battered one sounds fantastic. Weirdly the white one and the red one are lighter and much more gig friendly.
