skidder652003
Got an email from Lemonrock last night saying 2 gigs at a well known music pub in Plymouth had been cancelled, no explanation given. Contacted the venue and they were as surprised as I was. Asked to speak to the manager who does the bookings and was informed she had left. "under a dark cloud?" I enquired. "Possibly..." came the reply. Have now also discovered no gigs for 2024 are listed on the venues Lemonrock page. They have dozens of bands over the year 2 or 3 times a week. Pub has told everyone on FB that all gigs for 2024 will need to be reconfirmed (sounds like the bookings book has left with the ex manager) Just out of interest, could this be seen as possible vandalism of a venues business by a disgruntled former employee? Dont know the full circumstances of course but its very strange...
chris_b
I've seen the gig diary and address book disappear with a sacked pub manager. The new manager was hoping the bands would turn up anyway, which they did.
Lozz196
Works the other way too, we once played a pub that had changed hands and although the new landlord was honouring all the bookings it was clear he didn`t want any music in his pub, nothing done to promote the gig, stage area changed etc etc. Given he`d done nothing to draw in the locals after about 4 songs of us playing to no-one he asked us to take £100 and stop playing/go away. tauzero
I've known managers to take the diary with them too. Last time was a long time ago, can't remember if we actually turned up and found we were double booked with the replacement manager's selection of band or whether we found it out before turning up. lemmywinks
I've had a pub manager take the diary and also the our NYE fee along with it! Got a nervous call from the new guy asking us if we were still ok to play NYE and to confirm we had already been paid, apparently the old manager told them he'd paid all the bands up front then just done a runner with the money.

Hurricane Jimmie
We've had some venues that have multiple people booking bands during the year. These are usually private clubs where volunteers are doing most of the work. We were loading in once when another band showed up. The venue had double-booked because the club's booking people weren't communicating very well with each other. Lots of turnover in the bar business.
