Actually, I did a lot of my day job, back then (since retired) and others before, for nothing, as did a lot of my colleagues. I’m not sure that this guy didn’t have a daytime occupation at the time too. My gigs were/are a supplement, so still count as a job of sorts. In addition, rehearsals are part of the cost of doing business, like commuting costs and consumables. Edited January 7 by ezbass Quote

It’s the, “I’m a professional,” with nose stuck in the air, as if they’re somehow better than you. I’ve worked with one guy, where we had a gig and needed to get the set together, it was a pick up band, but because he was a “pro” it was suggested that he didn’t have to pay his bit of the rehearsal space cost and he might have got a bigger slice of the gig fee too. I went along with, but it annoyed me, he wasn’t/isn’t that good, just a pub/club player who is a local name. Some folk need a reality check. The professional bass player in question back in the day used to tour with some big name acts.... and that's the problem as he approaches everything on that basis. What he doesn't consider is that this is a band playing covers for pub money. Quite ironically, the biggest issue I used to have with the guitarist is that he was always upset about the lack of money being offered to the band for gigs and complained he was being disrespected but such paltry offerings.... well, from now on he's going to be paying a lot of respect to their bass player! Hopefully it'll make them appreciate what they had a bit better. 1 Quote
cheddatom Posted January 7 Posted January 7 I've been paid for rehearsals before when depping. I didn't ask but it was offered so I took it. Is it that uncommon? Quote

Normally depends on the type of band. If it’s a big function band, big band or theatre work then it’s not uncommon. Less common for a pub band or unsigned artist. Quote
