Facing up to reality

Where does your age come into this?

Your "limits" are self imposed. Stop that!! Push those limits every time you pick up a musical instrument.

You're not spectacular? Very few of us are. Just put more effort into being the most "spectacular" you can be.

Rewind to my life ten years ago and I had accepted that my gigging life was over. I hadn't been in a band for ages, had no contacts, failed to find anyone or anything I could join with.

Time to accept that part of my life was over.

Life threw me a curve ball, everything turned upside down. Without boring you with the details I scored a dep gig. From that everything snowballed and now I gig between two and four times a week every week.

You simply never know.

Similar story here, I gave up for a decade and sold all my gear ( that would sell anyway) and then suddenly found myself in a band again and the whole thing started again. The Gas is stronger second time around though.

@Count Bassy I'm reading a bit of frustration between the lines of your OP, as I think you know the answers to the questions in it already.

Not very profound, but if you enjoy playing, then play, whether that be at a 10,000 seater stadium or in your bedroom. I imagine your collection of gear is all bought and paid for, so if you dont desperately need the capital tied up in them or the space they take up, leave them be.

I hope things work out for you and the future becomes a bit rosier. Though, me being an optimist, I already know it will be :)

Same here really. Been playing on and off for 40 odd years. Did a dep four yrs ago with a very good 60's covers band which wasn't easy.. (Beatles etc) and knew that was it...It was all too loud, too serious and too tedious. Maybe Im lucky, I have a nice extension out the back looking onto fields. I open YT plug in stand by the window and play along to stuff Ive never really played in all those years. Maybe find a chart or two to work from, huge satisfaction. Pretty sure I dont miss the stage one little bit.
