Yorkshire Bottom End
I like the sounds of this little thing, and it's great for portabilty and features, but has anyone put it through an amp/PA for a full gig and what's the best way? It has two (R and L) line outs and no DI. I briefly managed to put it through a PA and it bypasses the speakers so I can't use it as an ear level monitor. The venues and churches I play in all have great PAs. I'm lucky. Gone are the days of shabby cesspits and crap front of house sound so I hope this is giggable. I play with a 30+ strong gospel choir so I need some volume without having to lift too many heavy cabs at my age...
Burns-bass
Personally, I'd get a TE elf and a Barefaced 1x10. That's what I use and it's amazing.
Yorkshire Bottom End
I've got an Elf head. With the two Elf cabs at 4ohms it's almost good enough. The Boss has loads of effects built in which would come in handy if it was reachable between tracks to change if I want to dial any in. Never looked at Barefaced cabs. Heard good things. fretmeister
I have an older one that just has a headphone / recording out. I've used that into recording interfaces and into PA systems before and I thought it sounded excellent. The only downside was there was no sound from the internal speaker that way. I've had it for maybe 15 years and I still think it sounds brilliant.
Yorkshire Bottom End
Thanks. It's a problem not having any sound from the internal speaker(s) once it goes into a PA. Kind of acts as a multi effects unit with a limited preamp plus amp modeler, looper and drum machine. I only tried one line out (L) as a test so I might persuade the sound guy to let me use both and see how it sounds. Phil Starr
Have you tried the 'Loop Back' switches on the back of the amp? There appears to be one for the digital output and one for the line outs.
Yorkshire Bottom End
No I haven't. What would that achieve? You're right, there are two. One is under 'Cube link/Aux in' and the other is under USB. I can't test it at home as I dont have the right lead to connect to my rig/tower PA. Time to go shopping...
Phil Starr
1 hour ago, Yorkshire Bottom End said: What would that achieve? I don't know to be honest. It just seemed remarkable to me that you would provide not one but two XLR line outs without allowing you to continue monitoring your playing. The Boss website was quite unhelpful but my interface for instance allows me to monitor either what I'm inputing or what is looping back from the computer. I wondered if those switches would allow you to do the same. Worth a try anyway?
Yorkshire Bottom End
Definitely worth experimenting. Loads of stuff on it that I haven't played around with yet, but some things seem to have been overlooked (like the ability to use the internal speakers when hooked up). If it was 500w I'd be laughing. With a DI. I really like the tone at low volume. But if it was bigger then I'd compromise portability, size, weight, battery power etc. I practise at low volume at home, and gig and busk a lot outside and it's really useful to carry around. One gig bag, one lead, one amp - get on the bus and I'm off!
Jack
The xlrs definitely mute the internal speakers? There's no mention of that in the manual.
