bubinga5
Zappa's playing is fantastic on this utterly fantastic record. Love love the drumming from Don Brewer Edited November 1 by bubinga5 3
super al
Grand Funk Railroad have never been on my radar for some reason but I'm listening to the Gail Ann Dorsey podcast from another basschatter here and she says the first bassist she listened to was the GFR bassist...thought I'd check em out and here they are with my favourite guitarist (bassists have favourites! 😲) Frank Zappa. My missus entered a competition to win the entire catalogue of FZ's 2012 remastered reissues and won! That was 2013, I'm still working my way through them 11 years later 😄

super al
I took a photo at the time, I think it's about 2ft in CDs. I had some FZ CDs from the early 90s and the sound quality in the 2012 versions is noticeably better 👍🏻

That was 2013, I'm still working my way through them 11 years later 😄 Do the 2012 remasters keep the original bass and drum tracks? Many of the 90s reissues quietly re-recorded parts that Zappa wasn't happy with, and I feel like while they're cleaner sounding, they miss some energy from the original releases. Hearing the original "We're Only In It For The Money" compared to my 90s reissue was particularly noticeable, just a weirder, more interesting sounding album all around before Zappas 90s "improvements".
