Sibob Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 (edited) Hi all, Let’s get your thoughts on this. For reasons, I want to run a small board with a HX Stomp and a Boss Tuner. Both require power of course, with the Stomp requiring a fairly hefty 1amp. I would love to simply use the HX Stomp power supply rather than a Cioks or similar. Is there a way I could split off some of that power to run to the TU2? Added challenge, would like the pedal powers isolated from one another. I do also have a Diago Powerstation hanging around (3amps), but same issue, how do I split to two power outlets while remaining isolated and giving the Stomp what it needs. Cheers Si Edited November 2, 2024 by Sibob Quote
LukeFRC Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 (edited) Do they need to be isolated? Typically when the tuner is on it will be muting the signal too…? otherwise a gig rig isolator or the mooer version? an alternative would be to build a wee midi footswitch the size of thr space with 3 foot switches on for stomps tuner and two for whatever else you want … would still need isolated power… Edited November 2, 2024 by LukeFRC Quote

I'd just get a footswitch. No power required and would do everything your tuner would do. this is mine. It's a footswitch built by a mate, but any old footswitch would do the job. Not sure if what you want to do is possible but the stomp has quite a specific connector which might make it more complicated/expensive if it is possible. Quote
MartinB Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 Could you not just stick a battery in the tuner? It's not like it's going to be switched on for more than a few seconds at a time, so it'll last ages. Plus the noise problems that folks sometimes have with rechargeable 9-volters are unlikely to be an issue for a tuner. Quote

I just figured that as both pedals are digital, it would be preferable. I already have a Pedalnetic foot switch extension for the Stomp, but would like to try and retain 5 switches for fx blocks rather than lose one on the tuner, hence a separate tuner. The gigrig isolator would be great, but each output only gives 100mA. Si Quote

Thanks though. Si Quote

Si I was thinking a wee 3 footswitch midi controller - giving you 5 on/off per patch, patch up and down and tuner - midi expression socket too Quote
tauzero Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 Why do the power supplies need to be isolated? You could easily split the Stomp power supply by getting 5.5/2.5mm male and female connectors and a 5.5/2.1mm male connector and connecting them up as a daisy chain but they wouldn't be isolated from each other. 1 Quote

It would be worth at least trying the experiment. 1 Quote

No it can't be isolated as the Stomp power supply is just a single power supply. Is the stomp tuner than bad then? Quote
Jack Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 The tuner is fine, just a waste of a switch. Quote

I'm sure you could wire a cable with a socket on one end (to accept the hx psu) and then a split to the helix and the boss on the other. Polarity etc aside it's still just 9v dc. Maybe one of our cablers on here could help? Or kludge it with adapters? But then you'd need the hx psu, a step down from 2.5 to 2.1, a y cable, and then one side stepped back up to 2.5. At that point it's maybe a little messy? Quote

I've already said how it could be done simply - 2.5 female which would have two leads coming from it, one 2.5 and one 2.1. @Sibob still hasn't said why it has to be isolated. At this point, I'm giving up. Quote

Higgie Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 (edited) GigRig Distributor into Isolator. Power the Stomp off the Distributor, tuner off the Isolator, all from either the Diago or Line 6 psu. Edited November 3, 2024 by Higgie 1 Quote
Higgie Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 You could also run the Stomp off a GigRig Distributor/Mr Universe combo and have the tuner powered directly from the Distributor, but it would be more cost effective to buy an Isolator to power the tuner and feed the Stomp directly from the Distributor. 1 Quote
Skybone Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 You would think, that with all the technology in the Helix / HX pedals, that Line6 would be able to provide an accurate tuner. Always carry a TC Electronic UniTune Clip in my POD Go's bag. Quote

I have space for an external tuner, so why not. Si Quote
