Stealth Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Well not that loud but acoustic hard hit drums with loud cymbals and 150w Stereo guitar set up. The PA does kick and Vox only. Doesn’t have to be featherweight that’s what trolleys are for lol Ideas / offers / abuse all welcome Quote
chris_b Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 150 watt guitar amp? I'm getting killed in my loudest band with a guitarist using 35 watts! My usual rig is 700watt amp and 2 x 112 cabs, Aguilar and Barerfaced. Light, loud and the best sound I've had so far. My trolley gets no use these days. Quote
joel406 Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 IEMs. Stage volume is not your friend. 2 Quote
Downunderwonder Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Forget combos unless it is combo plus extension and trolley. Quote

Stealth Posted November 3, 2024 Author Posted November 3, 2024 Guitar is a line 6 2x12 combo 75w a side stereo not crazy loud just loud. Drums are kin loud lol Quote
PaulWarning Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 similar thread here, Rumbles are good if a little bulky Quote
tauzero Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Budget? GR Bass combos are under 10kg for an 800W 1x12 (puts out 500W into the internal speaker, a second 8ohm cab gets it up to 800W) but they're a bit over £1k. Is there a particular reason for choosing a combo rather than separates? Quote
Stealth Posted November 4, 2024 Author Posted November 4, 2024 Budget well less is more lol but £1000+ if needs be. Combo just laziness and a buggered back Quote
gary mac Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 (edited) One of the decent small heads and a Barefaced Super Compact would be a great choice.Due to back problems and other health issues I had to go the lightweight route. I used Galien Kruger and Genz amps with a SC in some very loud situations.👍 Edited November 4, 2024 by gary mac 1 Quote
bigthumb Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 If it has to be a combo I’d be looking at a MarkBass one. I was very impressed with my 1x12 I had a couple of years ago. I later bought a 1x12 extension cab and it was plenty for any venue we played. Compact and light weight was a big bonus too. Quote
ped Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 I mentioned it elsewhere in a similar thread but the Eich BC112pro is light, sounds massive and there’s one for sale here. The tilt back function (using a clever steel rod) means it points at you, not your ankles, so you can hear it perfectly, but it’s not one of those awkward triangular shaped boxes. Quote

BassAdder60 Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Personally for this I would grab a decent 2 x 10 cab or two 1x12 cabs both. 8ohms each and a 500w head There is a Laney rig in the sale ads that would be perfect for this Combos can be a little restrictive in time 1 Quote

Use it in a blues rock 3 piece with a loud guitarist and it doesn’t struggle at all. Easy lift, compact and sounds ace. Many people who bought the 2x10 extension that goes with these have never needed to use them, the combo being enough on it’s own. 4 Quote
Beedster Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 I'd agree re a couple of posts above, a lightweight combo might not be the best shout for a loud rock unit 1 Quote
Skybone Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 (edited) I have an Ashdown 2x10 combo, that more than holds it's own with a loud rock band, it could in fact go even louder. 200w @ 8Ohms (internal speakers), 300w @ 4Ohms (with a cab). Never tried it with a cab, it's loud enough for my needs. Not the lightest though, at about 25kg, but it was reasonably priced when I bought it. Like most combo's with only a top handle, it's awkward to carry. There's a lot to be said of the newer, lighter combo's, plenty of them are coming in below 20kg. Would I buy another combo? Absolutely. Edited November 4, 2024 by Skybone Quote

Absolutely. Yep, but if O/P's guitarist is using 150w, none of the figures above matter? I think the problem is that plenty of combos will go loud - i.e., could go even louder - but in my experience most will not sound great doing so. Even the best bass combo ever made - Mesa Walkabout 12 - can struggle when things get messy. OK, it can compete in most situations, but it may not compete in the optimal way (and as far as I'm concerned I don't want my amp to compete I want it to win!). So, I moved from the Walkabout combo which was struggling at times, to the Walkabout head with two Bag End 12 and voila, still an easy load in/out, but both the volume and the tone I was after 👍 2 Quote

JPJ Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 I have one of those rare Ashdown Neo 400W 1x15 combo’s that I’ve found to be plenty loud enough on its own in a variety of band settings. Mine lives in its flight case on castors and that seems to do the same thing as those sexy Auralex isolation pads as this thing punches way above its weight. Quote
