Very cheap EUB... thoughts?

So... I've always fancied an EUB if not the real thing. I've never really had chance to really sit down with one and have a go, partly due to being left handed. Harley Benton do their EUB in left handed for just under £600. Then somehow I came across this... I know it will be pretty rubbish. I know it could in fact be completely unplayable. But, as a starter?

I would normally dive in for the Harley Benton but I moved house recently and I'm spending like there's no tomorrow on boring stuff, so cash is tight right now.

Yeah it seems like an AliExpress style knock-off but it's actually not on AliExpress. Scammers absolutely everywhere and no info whatsoever about this bass in the usual places. More than likely a total scam, not even a shoddy knock off.

Converting a right hand stick EUB like the Stagg, Aria, Harley Benton etc isn’t a huge challenge, but be prepared to be underwhelmed. I started on the Stagg, quickly moved on to a KK Baby Bass, and most recently an NS NXT. Each step has taken me closer to an upright sound (especially as I am now running double bass impulses from 3Sigma) but it’s still not a true upright bass sound. So much so that I have just today taken a loan of a real db which I think is probably coming home to stay with me.

Definitely walk...or even run away. Several things looking decidedly fishy there.
As others have said, it looks a lot like an NS, and they sell for much more money than that.

If you really want to spend as little as possible on an EUB, you could wait for a used HB or Stagg on here.
My first upright was a Stagg, which I bought at the Cambridge Folk Festival. It wasn't great - but there are improvements & upgrades you can make to them (there's a useful website somewhere).

Mine didn't put me off playing upright at all - it encouraged me! Plus, when I sold it on, I got what I paid for it. It seems there's always someone out there wanting to dabble with upright.... and for the sort of money you'd expect to pay - I think it's worth it. Even if you decide it's not for you.... you'll pretty much get your money back.

Good luck with your search, and hopefully with your new adventure (do it, do it - I've never looked back)

The cheap EUBs started with the Palatino VE-500, then Stagg brought out or rebadged an identical one. I had a Palatino, later upgraded to an NS. The Palatino/Stagg/HB use endpins, the NS sits on a stand but has an endpin option. If you're switching between upright and something else, or have long gaps between songs/tunes, the stand is more convenient. I think you'd just have to change the bridge on an NS to switch to leftie (possibly just turn it round). You'd need to do something about the sockets for the side pieces to change the endpin types over.

I got a used Rocket (I think, pretty sure it’s really a Stagg) EUB and converted it to a lefty. Personally I don’t like it live just because, well, it’s a stick, but I use it every week for band practice and have recorded it with bowed and slapped and it’s always been remarkably good for what it is.

If it helps inform your choice, then if you’re anywhere near Sheffield and want to have bash on that and a couple of different lefty uprights by all means give me a shout.
