Kiss - Destroyer - Steven Wilson 5.1

Recommended Posts

I don't, because I don't have an audio system of decent enough quality to make the most of it.

Having heard his fantastic work with the classic 'Chicago II' album though I'm sure it's excellent!

I've got a fairly basic 5.1 system (not Atmos) and a Blu-ray player and the Steven Wilson stuff I've got in the surround (primarily XTC, Tears For Fears and his solo work) is stunning.  I tend to rip the discs to MKV and stream from a NAS.

Got to say I was a bit surprised with Wilson getting involved with Kiss/Destroyer, it's an album I like a lot, but equally unsurprised that the band went the $$ route and only included it in the Super-Deluxe version.

Ive got a 7.1.2 system and it sounds really good on that. Detroit Rock City is the showpiece and it sounds as good as you'd hope it would. I reckon its the best Ive ever heard the album sound. Wilson has a golden eared reputation over on the quadraphonicquad.com forum. All of the multichannel remixes of his Ive heard have beeen outstanding, particularly his work with king crimson's back catalogue

The sadness here is that the album didn't get a standalone 5.1 release.  Boo!

I'm fairly open minded on pricing and the like. The aim of the game is to make money, but basically all you're getting for £200 is a 5.1 mix and a few bits of paper.

I'm a massive Kiss fan, but that's a step too far. I can stream everything else on the Super Deluxe for free. Don't need the other crap.

This is definitely one of those albums for me that I bought several times; vinyl (twice), cassette, CD and then CD again.

They could have put the Blu-ray out at $25 a pop and made a small fortune off that alone.  Ack.

Multichannel mixes only appearing in overpriced box sets has been a constant gripe. Unfortunately, its a relatively small customer base so the record companies seem to be aiming for low volume high pricing rather than trying to encourage more buyers into that market.

We used to play Detroit Rock City in my school band.

I've not got that one but do have a couple of other Steven Wilson DVD Audio releases, including Thick As A Brick which I bought yesterday.

I rip them to FLAC 96/24 so I can stream them to my hi-fi.

(Unfortunately my hi-fi amp is off for a service, so it'll be a week or so before I can have a proper listen.)
