Bassmidget209
Just wanted to moan really. My band has been in a semi contracted state for the past year-ish when our drummer left due to personal issues. Me and the guitarist had kept meeting up to manage as an acoustic duo of sorts which was fun but was always just to keep our eye in performance wise. Anyways during this time we were contacted by a promoter we did a gig in Nottingham the year before. He was running a night in Whitehaven, which we were to do as a duo (opener). Last few weeks we've finally found a drummer and he has picked everything up quickly so now we were a full band opener. A couple of weeks ago we get a message telling us the headliners 'are no longer a band' and would we like to headline. Great news! Just recieved a message from the promoter this afternoon telling us the venue double booked the night and our whole thing is cancelled. Absolutely gutted. The promoters raging. Just a big anti climax. This was gonna be my first gig in a full band since about this time last year. Oh well onwards and upwards! 1
casapete
That’s crap but in this game stuff like this happens all too often. Back in the early 80’s when I had a day job, my band was offered a short tour in Scandinavia as a support act for a band who were just beginning to do okay. I booked time off work, even getting my boss to swap his holidays around with me so I could go, as one of us needed to be in the office. The band arranged the carnets / gear / transport etc, and I even went to Liverpool to queue up to renew my passport which was dangerously near its expiry date ( a round trip of 250 miles ). Then about 10 days before we were due to leave, the tour got cancelled. Flimsy excuses were offered but we suspected it was down to poor ticket sales / promotion etc. To cap it all, I had two weeks of lousy weather staying at home on my ‘holidays’ whilst my boss had a fortnight of glorious sunshine on his.
Bassmidget209
Yeah I had a feeling my story would sound all too familiar sadly. Still it's hardly the worst news that's came out this week I suppose.... Can you imagine your son being that big?!

At least you don't have to go to Whitehaven.
Bassmidget209
Not gonna lie when I first got asked I genuinely thought it was somewhere out of Game of thrones. At the same time I work in Cumbernauld and Coatbridge almost daily. I'm sure Whitehaven is a step up

miles'tone
Shame, but at least you have a band again. There'll be other gigs.
