AndyTravis
So, when I’m not writing about basses and licking various Flatwounds to decide on my favourite flavour… I actually do play bass. I have a band called Fiasco Jam - I actually joined them a year ago to the day. They’re a great band and I love the guys, they’re fun to be around and it allows my inner Indie Boy to play out. I make no bones about my love of funky, Jazz stuff. But it’s not their thing and they chuckle when I whip into my Mancunian Marcus Miller stylings during breaks in practice. Prior to this band, I was in a very good Funk/Rock/Blues type outfit called Flying Oceans… I loved the music we did, but as these things do…it fell apart when money, albums, creative tensions and ultimately Egos got in the way. We only ever managed one gig… The singer and I clashed regularly…we’re not fast learners…it was our third project together. I absolutely love him as a friend, he’s a great singer and like any toxic coupling we are inexplicably drawn to one another. We just cannot get rid of one another. Some of you may know that I generate musical ideas with alarming regularity…like a reverse writers block. It causes me to stockpile ridiculous amounts of Demos. My current band take on these ideas, and as of writing this - 5 out of 10 songs in the set are mine, another 7 are going onto the album… So they’re not wasted follies. What to do with the other stuff though? Out of the blue, I asked for the Masters from “Circles” to do a video for Iris’ Wheelchair ramp jumping (she’s entered an online competition). The Flying Oceans singer duly sent them over. ”you got any new gear, new songs” etc. So I sent him A few demos. He’s spent a week writing and demoing vocals. Hes about to send the first one over. I shall return with the results. The band is done, as far as I’m aware as drummer and guitarist left Manchester between the band ending and now… But they’re fine if we record and release as Flying Oceans As a point…I’ve no clue what he’s recorded so I might not be so positive this evening 🤣 Has anyone else got an ex band mate or band they keep going back to? Matt is mine - this is now our 4th run at working together… Edited November 9 by AndyTravis

AndyTravis
Well, after struggling with the vocals he sent over… it turns out he ran the track at 100bpm (I’d recorded at 98) and that’s why I can’t get the vocals in the right places… He’s redoing them

I often do this to get random samples to line up (using Reaper; other DAW's are available, I'm told...).
Jackroadkill
I've been in four projects with a close friend whom I've known since I was 13, but we've drawn a line under making music together because we just can't make it work in the long term. Early on it always feels great - the songs write themselves, the gigs are great, and then.... Something happens, and it goes downhill. It's a shame, as he's a great singer and the loveliest man, but our last effort was enough to convince me that it was never going to work. Andy, I hope your re-kindled bromance works well, my friend!
