rwillett
Some new bizzare finger picking technique or big dint or hole and he wants to cover it. Only thing I can think of. Rob

Tim2291 Posted Tuesday at 09:51 Share Posted Tuesday at 09:51 To be fair, perhaps he likes the feel of playing on a Jazz pickup at the rear and this gave the same feel... looks odd though. And that defretting job is simply breathtaking...ly shit.

Looks like the frets were pulled out by his teeth Rob
NikNik Posted Tuesday at 20:02 Share Posted Tuesday at 20:02 Those unfilled fret gaps will cause the fingerboard to bow up, no?
rwillett Posted Tuesday at 20:15 Share Posted Tuesday at 20:15 Filled with epoxy resin apparently... I think the way he's calculated the value is slight wrong. He should be deducting what he's done to the price not adding it

dudewheresmybass Posted Thursday at 16:58 Share Posted Thursday at 16:58 some sort of new approach to the ramp perhaps?
lowregisterhead Posted Saturday at 09:50 Share Posted Saturday at 09:50 The holes under the strings were for what was termed a 'tug bar' back in the day - the forerunner of a thumb rest, where the fingers would be curled around it, and the strings plucked with the thumb. According to the link below, the tug bar was added by Fender to accommodate Monk Montgomery, one of the first professional users of the Fender Bass. He played with his thumb, just as his brother Wes did. He later switched to using a felt pick. https://www.bestbassgear.com/ebass/gear/hardware/what-is-a-tug-bar-on-an-electric-bass.html
Hellzero Posted Saturday at 11:13 Share Posted Saturday at 11:13 Monk Montgomery was the first professional user of the then new electric bass. 😉
lowregisterhead Posted Saturday at 15:47 Share Posted Saturday at 15:47 Sorry if I'm teaching Granny how to suck eggs regarding the tug bar. I didn't even notice the thumb rest by the bridge!
rwillett Posted Saturday at 16:24 Share Posted Saturday at 16:24 Sorry but how can the “whatever it is under the strings by the bridge” work? do you put your fingers on it between the strings and then use your thumb? I’ve just tried it on my bass using the bridge pickup and it feels very odd. Rob
Jean-Luc Pickguard
Was I the only one who after seeing the defret job, checked whether the tuners were fanned out at jaunty angles?
