Posting Pictures limit

I'm struggling to post pictures because the file sizes are too big.

Is there a limit to how much can be posted please?

There is a limit, but it is quite a big limit. And yes, you are at it! 485.68 MB of of 488.28 MB allowance. I am sure there is somewhere you can see it but I can't find it now.

It seems your default photo size are quite big, which can happen if you are going straight from a phone or something without compressing them.

 

The easiest thing you can do at the moment is tidy up old images or compress them and put them back

There are so many Resize options available, either as software or online, I don't see why you'd be posting big pictures at all. Another option is to host the pictures on a hosting site, and post only a link to the picture on that site. No BC server space taken up at all. Are these not easy enough options..?

Or you could use an external image host.

You'll also get big image sizes if you copy the image and paste it into a post, as it will generate an "image.png" file in PNG format which will be larger than it need be.

I'm no IT expert, so don't know any of this

cleared out a load of pictures from the archives, so I have some space back

will look at compressing pictures going forward

One approach that is used is to go back to your posts with larger images and edit the post.

You can "replace" the larger image with a smaller one (produced using one of various onlines tools) by adding the new smaller image to the post and then deleting the old larger image.

I've just done it by downloading the images in each post, then editing the post to use the version I've just downloaded, which tend to be about 1/10th the size

If you look at your attachments, you can spot the really big ones. On the right hand side of the attachments page you can see any posts that the attachment is used in, so you can edit the post and substitute the smaller image. Something else to consider is that if you have the same image in more than one post, make sure you "insert existing attachment" rather than re-uploading the picture - give them meaningful names and you'll be able to search for them afterwards.

You just need the bit inside the <img></img> tabs.

That is bbcode, followed by you putting bbcode in img tags, that is for much older forums - delete all the stuff I have highlighted in orange, the forum will notice what you have written and put it as an image

I think you've used the link icon to paste that in as a link, or at least that's how it's turned out. You just need the URL itself, the bit starting https and ending jpg - simply paste that into your post.

 

Oddly, when I tried copying the URL from that last post, it kept on putting it in as a link but when I copied the relevant bit out of an earlier post where you'd tried <img>[url=https://postimg.cc/N5MKF8Cx][img]https://i.postimg.cc/c47wDXQP/IMG-0809.jpg[/img][/url]</img>, it worked OK:
