PaulKing
Anyone use Rumble gear with upright? Thoughts? I've been a Markbass user for yonks. Use 1x12 cabs because they're so convenient, and kick ass. But recently I've had real GAS for a 2x10 ... for high-mid clarity. My rehearsal studio is kitted out with Fender Rumble 500 head and 4x10 cab. I have to say it's really easy to dial in a super clear tone, that cuts right through the mix, and isnt honky and boxy at all. I like it. I'm tempted to take my Markbass head down and plug it in to see if it's the sound of the cab that I like, or whether it's the head producing that tone. From what I've read Rumble kit has a reputation as budget rehearsal studio gear. It's certainly cheaper than MB, but most things are... Any of you got experience using it with upright in live situation? Fender 210 is similar size to MB 1x12 ... just 5cm wider. Fender is 20kg to MB 15kg, cos of ceramic speakers. (though I just saw the v3 is 17.7kg .. better). And it's got a compression tweeter rather than the nice HF horn in the Markbass... That puts me off a bit ... but I should trust my ears! PaulKing
ooh I've been looking at the new range of MB58R Pure ... 2x10 is now smaller, lighter. VERY tempting. Save me...
tinyd
I read some comments on Talkbass about the Rumble combos being good for DB...
NickA
Correction ...It was a @gypsyjazzer thread ... But @anon who was bigging up rumbles. They're ok. All these new class D amps are "ok". But MB are very good, doubt one of the smaller rumbles will beat it. A 2x10" MB might be what you need. My own double bass rig is 10x 5" ( replacing a 1x 15") so I understand your desire for smaller punchier speakers 😂 Edited November 15 by NickA false info corrected
Norris
I use a Fender Rumble v3 500 combo as my normal bass guitar amp. On a few occasions in smaller pubs we go "acoustic" to keep the volume down a bit, and I then use my cheapo Stagg EUB (actually a "Rockett by Stagg") and back off the gain to clean the amp up a bit. It sounds pretty decent to me, and I've certainly not had the crowd rolling around the floor in laughter at the sound. Given the Stagg is not going to sound like a proper DB, but the amp makes a decent job of it - 2x 10", with horn switched off.
pete.young
I've been using an LFSys Monza with double bass and it sounds excellent. It too has a compression driver and a carefully designed crossover, and projects the mid and upper frequencies upwards so you hear everything really clearly. I'm in Ipswich if you want to try mine, or @stevie might know some owners more local to you if you don't fancy a road trip.
