bubinga5 Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 I'm looking to pick up a used 6 string. I do like a flat neck back to front. Nothing below 18 mm spacing. I'm looking at a Yamaha TRB1006 as I used to own a TRB6ll and it was amazing but other suggestions are welcome. Does anyone own a 1006? What are your thoughts on it. Quote
Schnozzalee Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Cort A6 was my favourite, but I think the string spacing is tighter than a Yammy. 1 Quote
biro Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 I bought a TRB1006J and it has become pretty much my go-to bass. I also have several Japanese Soundgears and I think the quality is up there. The Yamaha's wide neck and flat (40") radius is amazing—I think there is a reason why they are an industry standard! 1 Quote
Hellzero Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 This: https://www.leboncoin.fr/ad/instruments_de_musique/2481532893 Amazing Benedetti pickups and excellent (when you understand how it works) Aguilar preamp. Barrillon is the luthier who bought Benedetti when Michel died. Quote
horrorshowbass Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Flat neck and great pickups? Ibanez comes to mind. Probably save a few quid too. 1 Quote

Burns-bass Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Anyway, back to the original question… I have played and owned a TRB6. They’re lovely basses. I found the radius to be a little too flat for me but that’s personal. If you can get a mid-90s Japanese version that’s the best one. Quote
binky_bass Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Another vote for the Cort A6, I've had a few over the years and they do punch well above their second hand price point. £350-400 or so for a decent second hand one would be a good price. Quote
Sauron_ Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 I had 2 TRB1006's and a Patitucci. Now I play a Cort A6 with Bartolini USA electronics. Sounds better, weights half a TRB and it doen's neck dive like the TRBs I had. Quote

Shockwave Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 The issue is trying to find something with 18mm+ string spacing for that money. Most options are 17.5mm or less. I think the best possibility is the new Squier 6 string Jazz. It's 18mm and 34" Scale. 1 1 Quote

lemmywinks Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Keep an eye out for a used MTD Kingston Z6? This one has sold now but £600-£700 is a fairly typical price: https://richtonemusic.co.uk/mtd-kingston-z6-natural-2nd-hand/?srsltid=AfmBOorXakYV9J3o-pbHqUfXc6V8B7PMHUi0EEMKO2JgWhuxMEuxQCjm Quote
