What's the best stand for a Jazz Bass?

Recommended Posts

I have used both the Hercules and K&M on awkward shaped basses (Gibson RD/Explorer/T-bird).  They're both good but the K&M is telescopic and packs down a lot smaller than the Hercules without having to dismantle it.  However, the Hercules grabby mechanism is superior IMO.  Also the Hercules is a bit heavier than the K&M, so it's less likely to be knocked over which sometimes happens to me with the K&M during an unclean dismount of the bass.

I don't play Jazz basses, but if you want a compact stand, the Rotosound RGS-200 works with a Jaguar, which is offset.  Just needs to sit it a little to the left in the stand.  Observe the difference compared to a Sire D5 (which is not offset).

A couple of feet from me are two basses with Jazz-type asymmetric bodies sitting on two different types of stand, both of which work well. One is on the aforementioned Hercules stand, the other is on a Stagg stand with a pivoting cradle.

I've got a few of the Stagg ones, I think they're great.

My instruments have scars that prove not all stands are equal. Currently I'm using one of these and apart from once when I put a bass on too quickly and it didn't grab it properly, not had any problems:
