neepheid Posted Sunday at 20:57 Share Posted Sunday at 20:57 (edited) I suspect this thread may be short (Tonerider or Warman, EOT) but I thought I'd ask anyway in case anyone had any other bright ideas. I'm putting a project together with an aggressively low budget and I'm looking for a great sounding but inexpensive pickup. My current thoughts turn towards the Tonerider Duke (a mildly overwound 12k Alnico 5 job - https://tonerider.com/products/the-duke), but I'm happy to listen to any other ideas you might have! Over to you... Edited Sunday at 20:58 by neepheid added URL
Mykesbass Posted Sunday at 21:05 Share Posted Sunday at 21:05 Entwistle should be on your list for consideration. 1
paul_5 Posted Sunday at 21:18 Share Posted Sunday at 21:18 I really rate the Wilkinson stuff, just put one on my P bass 'bitsa' and I love it!
Lozz196 Posted Sunday at 21:38 Share Posted Sunday at 21:38 All 3 makes mentioned so far will more than fit the bill.
Steve Browning Posted Sunday at 22:39 Share Posted Sunday at 22:39 If you can check behind the sofa for 3 quid, I'd go for the Kent Armstrong PBV in the classifieds.
PaulThePlug Posted Sunday at 22:43 Share Posted Sunday at 22:43 (edited) Not seen the over wound Duke variant... Interesting. Or this? As @Steve Browning posted and beat me to it... but no need for the Sofa-Search, latest was £35 posted! I'd chat up @daveybass Got one in my Squier, and a PJ set in a bitsa. PaulThePlug Posted Tuesday at 01:13 Share Posted Tuesday at 01:13 Just checked back on the Tonerider site... P pups are now £49 + p&p, up from £35. Makes the KA PBV (£58 + p&p) even more of a bargain at £35!

diskwave Posted Tuesday at 09:38 Share Posted Tuesday at 09:38 Broke my SD PU and to tie me over I bought an el cheapo no name Chinese thing off ebay. Its still in the bass, the Duncan is still in the draw.
neepheid Posted Tuesday at 12:16 Author Share Posted Tuesday at 12:16 I've gone for the Entwistle Neodymium job. Before they put their prices up too! Thanks to everyone who contributed to https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/235314-entwistle-bass-pickups Tonerider is probably still a great pickup too, but a 40% price hike in one go is a bit harsh, left a sour taste.
Maude Posted Tuesday at 13:24 Share Posted Tuesday at 13:24 Entwistle neo (PBXN?) is IMO very similar to an SD Quarter Pound but with slightly more mids/less scoop, which, again IMO, makes it better. A very good hot P pickup.
PaulThePlug Posted Tuesday at 13:39 Share Posted Tuesday at 13:39 (edited) PJ set of the Entwustle PBX/JBX went in my Arai PJ J And a little cocktail-stick-trick to ease fitting... Edited Tuesday at 13:45 by PaulThePlug
