Popular Post TRBboy Posted November 18, 2024 Popular Post Posted November 18, 2024 A couple of months ago, my eldest son was just starting his BTEC music course at high school, but didn't at that point play an instrument, so he needed to choose something..... Being a super cool kid, he obviously chose bass! 😅👌🥳❤️ He's just turned 15, what a great age to start! (I was 14) I was going to sell this cool little Ibanez GAXB150, but I gifted it to him instead. 😉 Some of his best pals are on the course too, and they've got a band going already, and have been super committed, and working hard to get where they want to be. They've even got their first performance at school next week! He's loving old school thrash metal, so we're off to see Anthrax this week too! 🤘😎 Happy times! 54 Quote
Lozz196 Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Never underestimate the lure of the low-end, get them whilst they`re young. 3 Quote
Kirky Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Two of mine are in bands now, one on bass, the other on guitar. I'm very jealous of the awesome gigs they get to play (Brudenell, Parasido in Amsterdam, Glastonbury, a Marc Riley session), and they're very jealous that my gigs tend to be better paid! One added benefit of having your kids into music is that they help me keep in touch with decent new bands/artists 4 Quote
Crusoe Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Fantastic. Good luck to them for the performance. 2 Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Great stuff! Don't miss Testament or Kreator on the same bill ! 😼👍 3 Quote

Basic, but they were making music! 👌 Edited November 18, 2024 by TRBboy 6 Quote
Reggaebass Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Nice one TRB, hope he sticks with it and goes far, my boys like the bass but they are not interested in playing it, one wants to play steel drums, great picture 2 Quote
Skybone Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Looks like he's thoroughly enjoying it too. Lots of "proud Dad" moments to come! My lad is on a music course at college and loving it. He's a drummer, but is learning to play bass, guitar, and doing a bit of singing too. In a couple of bands, and played a few gigs too. 2 Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Testament's bass player - Steve DiGorgio is an absolute monster of a player, as is Mr Bello. Both truly inspirational individuals Congrats on the addition to the community. 3 Quote
SteveXFR Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 My daughter plays bass. She took on my first bass when I upgraded. Over the last four years, she's got far better than me. Her alternative rock band have played a ton of gigs this year after winning a battle of the bands competition. She's just started a commercial music degree at Bath uni so now playing lots every day. 6 Quote
AndyTravis Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 My Ell loves basses and guitars. Plays in a band on and off. She comes at weekends so her room is where the basses live… ”dad, can I borrow yer Gibson?” ”in the house?” ”no, for rehearsal” ”uhm…Sod off…” She has a lovely 90’s Yamaha of her own. 3 1 Quote
Jackroadkill Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Excellent! What a great start in his music career. 2 Quote
binky_bass Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 I'm hoping my boy will have a passion for music too. Whatever he chooses to be passionate about, I'll support him. But obviously music would be great! He's already got his own little drum kit that he loves, fairly competent using the pedal and sticks... not bad for a 20 month old! 8 Quote
SH73 Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 (edited) Think most people start around that age, it was the age I started to play bass too. Yep, Anthrax, roll on Saturday. Edited November 19, 2024 by SH73 Spelling 2 Quote
MikanHannille Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 Nice one dude. And a nod to Berserk there! 2 Quote
mep Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 Great to hear. It's always good to see children follow in their parents footsteps. I'm sure he'll have a blast. Our son took up drums quite some time ago and is also our drummer, which we all appreciate. 2 Quote
SteveXFR Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 This is my daughters band (she plays bass) playing one of their original songs at a young bands competition they played last year. There's no single winner in this event but a group of promoters pick their favourite band in the finals to play their festival. They ended up getting three gigs out of it. 13 Quote

And a great name. 1 Quote
pete.young Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Great stuff @TRBboy . My eldest got into guitar at 13, formed a band with his mates at school. 20 years later, they've all moved back to the area and have started playing gigs together again. 1 Quote
mep Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 @SteveXFRGreat song and video for Butane Skies. Who did the video? I'd love to record our band, but it's not easy unless you invest in some decent gear. The multiple cameras work well too. 1 Quote

The event was organised by Riverside Studio in Chippenham who also recorded and filmed all the bands who took part. It's really good for a live recording. 1 Quote
Kirky Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 My son's former band, Mush, in London a while ago. He's the guitarist in the baseball cap. 3 Quote
SteveXFR Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 @Kirky they're excellent. Plenty of energy and great playing 1 Quote
SteveXFR Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 We just got back from my daughters bands gig. Their first headline show. They filled the venue, I've never seen so many people in for a local band. The support acts were good and then her band, Butane Skies, were amazingly good. Loads of confidence on stage and a superb performance. All band parents were proper proud of them 9 Quote
