Lozz196 Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Ok probably a daft question but as above - it’s my Behringer BDI21 really - if I do this what leads do I have to use? Obviously I have to plug my bass into the input and XLR into the DI but do I need to plug a lead into the output even though it won’t be going anywhere as am using it standalone? Quote
warwickhunt Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Output can go; nowhere/personal monitor/combo/amp&cab/IEM/anywhere. Quote
Lozz196 Posted November 18, 2024 Author Posted November 18, 2024 Thanks all, I’ve a gig on Sat where the stage is minute, we’re a 5-piece so to make my life easier with both loading in and setting up I’m travelling light and letting trusty BDI21 handle the load. Was fairly sure it wasn’t needed to be connected but great to have those that know confirm it. Quote
Supernaut Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 Let us know how you get on. The BDI21 is a decent pedal but I've never used the DI out in a live situation. Quote
Lozz196 Posted November 19, 2024 Author Posted November 19, 2024 Will do - am hoping it works well as if so I’ll do this for all my gigs moving forwards. Quote
fretmeister Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 It works great - I do stick a compressor in front of it as well as I find that sounds more amp like to me. I've got the Behringer and the Caline clones. Nothing to pick between them really. Quote
Supernaut Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 My ampless setup is an Xotic Bass RC Booster into a Radial ProDI. I do have the BDI21 but have never used it live. Quote
Downunderwonder Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Should be fine taking the lead from the desk to house DI and plugging it into yours. Not really any point to going bass, your DI, their DI, desk. Quote
Lozz196 Posted November 22, 2024 Author Posted November 22, 2024 I tried this at rehearsal the other night, just for the connections mainly, and yep, bass into BDI21 input, XLR into the DI socket and all was good in the PA. Looking forward to trying it at the gig on Saturday. Quote

It was quite enlightening finding how much bass cabs colour the sound as I had to drop a lot of top end from my regular settings on it, and add in some lows. It was also one of the easiest setting ups, other than plugging into an already there rig that I’ve done. But if the band need bass for their cues then spec out the venue/monitors beforehand, the venue we played had tiny monitors that can’t handle much so bass presence barely there. Not a problem for us playing wise but did make for a rather guitar/treble heavy onstage sound. Moving forwards I’m going to stick to doing it though, in all it was a winner and the sound was just so good in the mix. 1 Quote
