Converting a 3EQ Stingray to 2EQ?

I’ve got a 3EQ EBMM Stingray which I love, but I owned a 2EQ for a while and preferred the sound of it (shouldn’t have sold it!)

 

The electronics on my current MM are playing up a bit so I’m considering “converting” it to a 2EQ system as part of getting it fixed.

 

I’ve seen the John East preamps - I’ve been looking on the site but I’m not sure they have what I’m looking for - the 2EQ ones have the front mounted input socket, whereas mine has the input socket on the bottom of the body (standard 3EQ setup). Does anyone know if John East do a 2EQ set up which would fit straight in to my bass?

 

Also, whilst I’m looking at preamps, is it worth swapping out the pickup too? I know it’s probably personal preference for sound, but would any alternative pickup get me closer to that classic 2EQ sound?

If your bass is already an American Music Man with an AlNiCo pickup, just change the preamp.

 

You can use the regular 2 EQ preamp and wire 2 output jacks in parallel (one on the plate and one on the side) and use whichever you want.

FWIW, I wired that second output jack direct to the PU. Love it, so have barely been playing active since.

The Stinger pre-amp is just what you need, as @Hellzero states.
