NRD GK 1001RB content

So after trying a few different combinations for one of the bands I play in, I recently came to the realization that although I love the sound of the DG AO900, I just prefer the sound of the dUg pre and my pedal rig through a cleaner-sounding amp for this band.

So started searching for a beater head to drive using the dUg.

I've just sold my (now mostly unused) Ampeg PF800 rig (15 amd 210 cabs) so was thinking I'd have a bit of coin to play with for a new head. But ideally, something used.

Then I happened across this complete GK rig, locally.

Cut to some haggling, a short drive and a long natter about gear (the dude had some amazing basses!), I am now the proud owner of this monster.

Spent the afternoon re-doing a couple of rack set ups, going to the rehearsal space to swap out rigs and bringing the big old beater Behringer 810 cab home to squeeze into the Jamnasium (may have done me back in the process...)

Needless to say, I'm pretty darn happy with everything.

‘Proper’ amps these. I used GK stuff for over 20 years (the 1001RB for most of them )with no issues.

Loved the sound, build quality and overall vibe of them and only moved mine on when I downsized.

Well done with your choice, you certainly won’t regret it.

Glad to hear you had such a good run with one of these.

The build quality and reliability is definitely something I seriously considered and there are so many positive reviews and comments on these. And I know i can run it clean and still get a decent grindy tone without upsetting it.

I can't wait to get to rehearsal later this week!!!

I had the exact same amp cab setup. Epic tone! Cabs are heavy and an awkward one man lift. Still have the amp though!

Absolutely- the cabs are certainly not lightweight!!! Actually, neither is the head for that matter! hahaha

I am quite surprised that I managed to fit the lot into a Nissan Ariya haha.

Awesome set of wheels in that pic too man (even if the steering wheel is on the wrong side 😜 )

I ran mine through a GK Neo 4x10. Not light but not as bad as the RBH range.

I don’t consider the heads that heavy at 22 lbs. OK, not class D weight but for a conventional amp

they are easy to transport, and give a very loud 750 watts into 4 ohms. Sadly now discontinued too,

so snap them up while you can. 😊

Haha ! Driving a LHD manual felt weird for a while! I’m from your side of the pond, but have no idea what an Ariya is 😂

That would certainly take some getting used to!

Ariya - don't worry about it. Haha

I used GK amps for years, initially due to being a huge Chilis fan, but they do sound remarkable and since going in-ears I use a DiCosimo GK type preamp pedal

Much as I enjoyed the 1001RB II, I preferred the 700 as the 1001 was so powerful that I couldn't get that full tilt "on the rails" tone without it being ridiculously loud.

700RB II with 2x Ashdown MAG410s, not ABMs, was the best sound I ever had

I had the 700 before I got the 1001 and know what you mean. Running the 1001 into an 8 ohm

GK 410 I was never ever short of headroom though, but the 700 was that bit more ‘on the edge’

at similar volumes which was kinda nice too. Both great amps, just got my 800RB left now

which still gets an occasional airing.
