1976fenderhead
I'm going to be playing some unplugged sets and need an acoustic or semi-acoustic bass... I never really looked into that kind of bass so don't know what's out there... What brands do you suggest I should look into? Both pricey and mid-priced are ok, I'll make my mind up later on how much to invest... Cheers! Edited June 1, 2009 by 1976fenderhead
ahpook
if it's a totally ampless gig, then i don't think a semi-acoustic will be much use to you...they're louder than solid-bodied, but quieter than full acoustics.
1976fenderhead
Well, we're supposed to be using mics to go to the mixer, so I suppose an electro-acoustic is better? I think that's what I meant, it seems semi and electro-acoustic are different things? Edited June 1, 2009 by 1976fenderhead
ahpook
electro acoustic would give you the chance of running the bass into the desk for a bit more volume...and more flexibility for other gigs. electro acoustic and semi-acoustic are different beasts. electro acoustics usually use some kind of pickup in the bridge to directly sense the strings and are more like purely acoustic instruments...semi's are more like electric instruments with some degree of hollowness in their construction. if that makes sense ? agroupuk
If you can stretch to it this is, in my humble opinion, a very good bass. Tanglewood TW55 I have one and its possibly my favourite bass to play. Mind you I like Death Cab For Cutie so that might explain that
1976fenderhead
Yeah I meant electro-acoustic. What do you reckon about the Fender and Ibanez models? So far they seem the most interesting to me, at £300-350... Seeing it will only be a few gigs and this price range seems to give quite a suitable instrument, that Tanglewood's probably too pricey... :-/

Dom in Dorset
I was lucky enough to get an Ibanez AEB8E on special offer for £169, I constantly bore people by telling them how great it is. It's not the loudest acoustic but it has a great warm , but punchy tone, plugged in it's FAT to the power of 2365740. They are now in the £250 range http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/1575...eb8e-black.html Edited June 2, 2009 by Dom in Somerset
MoonBassAlpha
I think King Tut has an electro Tanglewood he was trying to trade. Might be worth dropping him a PM MBA
