Super Light Bass Cabs.

I'm lugging a quite compact 4x10 Eden cab around at the mo - love the size as it's quite compact but weighs in at just shy of 30kg.

 

I'm 41 and my back is starting to scream at me a bit - went to buy some PA speakers last week and the guy had a Markbass MB58R 102 P Bass Cab - absolutely insane how light it was and now I want to change to something lighter.

 

Anyone have any recommendations and other brands to consider? 

 

I like a 4x10 but definitely not adverse to a 2x12. 

 

Usually like them to be 4 ohm so I only have to take one cab. But if they are super light I guess I could change my ways 👌

I was in a similar position and went 2 x Ashdown ABM PRO NEO 210s from my 35kg Ashdown ABM410
 

At 13kg each, one in one hand and a bass in the other, then repeat, all gear in venue without having to lift anything particularly heavy. 
 

So my thoughts are look at two 210s or 112s, easier on the back and you can potentially use just one for rehearsals & smaller gigs.

I would consider the Lfsys Monaco 112 600w cab 

 

It’s 8ohms but a very capable single light weight cab

If you like 4x10's but want to reduce the weight, if your budget can stretch to it, then the Barefaced 3x10 is a very good option. It sounds immense, weighs 20kg, but has multiple handle options and wheels when you tip it back. I also have to manage my back, and even at knocking on 60 I find it easily manageable.

 

Where are you in Lancashire? I'm in Morecambe.

GR Bass's carbon fibre 4x10 weighs 13.3kg for the 800W version. It's not cheap at £1299 though (the same price as Barefaced's 4x10 which is 10kg heavier, or two LFSys Monacos which each weigh the same as one GR Bass 4x10).

I've had fantastic cabs for the last 30+ years, but over time the weight issue keeps cropping up.

 

I went from a Dynacord combo that weighed as much as a small planet to 2 x 90lb Mesa Boogie EV cabs, to a 52lb Epifani 410, to 3 x 30lb Bergantino 112's.  Then 10 years ago I discovered I could solve all my physical problems with 2 x 22lb Barefaced 112 cabs.

 

These days there are many great lightweight cabs to chose from, but my BF's are the lightest, loudest and best sounding cabs I've owned. I haven't used my trolley in years.

I doubt if the OP would need two Monacos. One is seriously loud on its own.

There are loads of great options these days. Barefaced, Mark Bass, GR.

 

They all sound a bit different.

 

I've recently come back to Mark Bass after many years with Barefaced. I'm very happy with it - I got one of the new 102 Energy cabs. I was going to get a pair and do a vertical 4x10 but one is plenty loud enough.

I also vouch for this, having played all of @stevie's cabs. The Monza, Monaco, and Silverstone are all completely viable one cab solutions. My choice has been the Silverstone.

As you’re in England I’d be looking local , both BF and LF Sys make world class cabs.

I've got some berg hd's which I love but they're very heavy so the last few years I've been trying lighter cabs ( still got the HDs)

Had a pair of Aguilar sl112s , not for me , loud but all snarling midrange ,

next I got barefaced 210s , loads of volume and good low end but for me they lacked punch , I'd always end up dialing in lots of low mid but compared to a cab with ceramic drivers had a hollow quality , didn't keep them long

Next a vanderkley 410lnt , great cab , so much power and low end extension, great for those gigs like a marquee wedding with a crap PA when you end up having to fill the space with your amp , it's actually not as hifi sounding as I thought, I bought it to use with an active 5 string which I think is the tone is does best but with an old p bass  with flats it sounds way better than I thought , still got it 

The other week a bergantino HDN 212 came up on here silly cheap so I got it and wow , little more old fashioned sounding than the vanderkley but a fair bit lighter and still super loud , in terms of mid range it's the best neo cab I've heard but if I'm recording I still probably use a bergantino hd112

Re. what the OP said about the new markbass cabs , think they're some sort of composite ( some in talkbass say cardboard!) I'm intrigued to try them , there's three models I think, Pure, Energy and P all voiced differently 

Having got all these fancy cabs they're great but I wouldn't turn my nose up at a pair of markbass 102 travellers TBF , great value,pretty light , loud enough and being modular could save your back if you can be arsed to do an extra trip

I'll be trying out my pair of TE 1x10s for the first time in a gig situation tomorrow. Will be interesting to see how they sound. I'm quite prepared to compromise a little given how absurdly light they are.

My Wolfcraft trolley easily handles all kerbs, gravel paths and steps.

 

ps. . . .  and flights of stairs.

What @chris_b said but I would also check out LFSys cabs. They punch well above their weight, literally and metaphorically.

I picked up a GR bass 2 x 10 on here a while back. It weighs about 8kg, even lighter than the barefaced stuff I've had before. They do a 2 x 12 in the same range which can't weigh much more. Sounds great too.

First time using my TE 1x10's in anger last night with my new HB Bass Block which I'm using as a power amp behind my Sansamp. I was staggered how good they sounded. I've previously been using a much loved MB 1x12 combo and 1x12 extension cab for years but these cabs, each at 7kg, absolutely held their own with more than enough in reserve against a loud drummer, two loud guitars and vocals. I need to sort out the eq on the Sansamp as unsurprisingly the new cabs don't sound like the old ones but very impressed and so is my back - although I ended up lugging other peoples gear around a bit too much so am still a bit sore this morning!
