U2 tribute band needs new bassist, a question for you all

Recommended Posts

Depends what era of U2, but I'd go with a jazz. His current signature bass looks good, but any jazz with blocks would fit. Or a sparkly P bass with a block/bound jazz neck. He's used so many over the years...

They do all eras of the band

I dont want to get a signature bass, too expensive but I could repurpose some bits onto an intersting bass

I`d go for a Jazz, battered if possible, will get near pretty much everything he`s done and look in character.

I'd say Jazz too, covers nearly all eras. He played Laklands for a while too, both Joe Osborn and Darryl Jones models - which are both basically Jazz Basses. He even (briefly) had a signature version of the (fairly affordable) Skyline Darryl Jones, which was somewhat confusing namewise.

Yeah I wouldn't suggest a signature bass for exactly the same reason. Just something similar!

Do a bitsa version of the one in the photo, easy and cheap to do, it's a PBass so all you need for it to sound decent is a decent PUP and tuners that hold. Most of my bitsas - and FFS I have made a lot of the bloody things - were cheap and pretty decent by comparison with even used prices for equivalent quality instruments 👍

Depending on when the audition is I'll do you one at cost, and it really won't be much, certainly less than a new Squier 👍

Like him or loathe him, he’s the reason that I started playing bass.
I admit he’s not Michael man ring but it is “in the pocket, in time” bass which is what most people expect to hear
