NAS Bass Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Been going through a bit of a pickup trial / test with one of my Precisions. Recently been trying the Bare Knuckle 65. A great PU apart from the seemingly "spiky" top end that I cant EQ out or tame with flats etc. Any other users have similar experiences or alternatives? This is for a maple board, alder body P, usually with nickel rounds, played fairly clean. Others I've used or still have in various Precisions: Early and late 70's originals (all really good) Pre-CBS MIM Frailin 10%+ (quite good if a little dark) EMG GZR (fantastic across the whole EQ range) Fender 62 "original" (lots of treble) Quote
soulstar89 Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 (edited) Have you tried either Bartolini 8s or 8cbp? I have the 8cbp in my Yamaha 70’s Asian ash maple neck & fretboard. smooth, creamy tone yet articulate. The treble isn’t spiky at all. A good amount of bass. The 8s has less treble and is more smoother that the 8cbp. arcane pickups are also highly regarded. I’ve never tried the emg GZR pickups. Edited December 5, 2024 by soulstar89 1 Quote

Thanks, I will look them up 1 Quote

I play mostly rnb, Motown, funk finger style works very well. it complements my wood combo with chords as well. Articulate but dreamy. arcane is really a top top pickup. I found out about them from a thread on talkbass. https://www.arcaneinc.com/bass 1 Quote
