NAS Bass
Been going through a bit of a pickup trial / test with one of my Precisions. Recently been trying the Bare Knuckle 65. A great PU apart from the seemingly "spiky" top end that I cant EQ out or tame with flats etc. Any other users have similar experiences or alternatives? This is for a maple board, alder body P, usually with nickel rounds, played fairly clean. Others I've used or still have in various Precisions: Early and late 70's originals (all really good) Pre-CBS MIM Frailin 10%+ (quite good if a little dark) EMG GZR (fantastic across the whole EQ range) Fender 62 "original" (lots of treble)
soulstar89
Have you tried either Bartolini 8s or 8cbp? I have the 8cbp in my Yamaha 70’s Asian ash maple neck & fretboard. smooth, creamy tone yet articulate. The treble isn’t spiky at all. A good amount of bass. The 8s has less treble and is more smoother that the 8cbp. arcane pickups are also highly regarded. I’ve never tried the emg GZR pickups. Thanks, I will look them up
soulstar89
Just now, NAS Bass said: Interesting, I'd not considered Bartolini's. Thanks, I will look them up Know worries. I love the tone. I play mostly rnb, Motown, funk finger style works very well. it complements my wood combo with chords as well. Articulate but dreamy. arcane is really a top top pickup. I found out about them from a thread on talkbass. https://www.arcaneinc.com/bass
