bassmayhem Posted December 8 Posted December 8 (edited) Yesterday I bought a very nice 6 string Unicorn Artist. This is the third Unicorn for me; the first - a 32" four string - I sold to a friend. The 32" was not for me. My second was, or is, my jolly green giant, the five string in British Racing Green. This one is the most flamboyant of all basses I've ever had. Lots and lots of different wood species. The best thing is, it is solid as a rock, sounds like a HUGE Jazz Bass in my hands, and really demands me to wear a tuxedo... Anyway, I like it! Cosmo Valdemar Posted December 8 Posted December 8 That is one luxury bass right there! My eye is irresistibly drawn to the far more humble Brooks on the left though... 😁 Quote

simisker Posted December 8 Posted December 8 No way that's a bass. That's a cake. An absolutely mouth-watering tour de force of a cake. What do I win? 2 3 Quote

Roasted quilted maple board on a layer of wenge (I think) on a nine piece laminated neck of maple and purpleheart. The body is sandwiched with quilted maple (white stain), wenge, mahogany, wenge and insane poplar burl. Pickup covers the same. The peghead is capped with wenge, roasted quilted maple, wenge and the matching white quilted maple. A piece of art. Those side fret markers i mother of pearl are insane. I am insane. 🤩 Quote

Misdee Posted December 10 Posted December 10 (edited) That's a lovely bass. Some expert woodworking has gone into that! The shape reminds me a bit of some Manson basses I've seen. It's quite (very)reminiscent of Alembic designs, too. Edited December 10 by Misdee Quote
NickA Posted December 10 Posted December 10 I'd never even heard of Unicorn.... amazing wood work and he can deliver in under a year. From his website: Prices starts from SEK 64000 / €5600 plus taxes*. Custom orders starts from SEK 74400 / €6520 plus taxes* Quote
Phill Posted December 10 Posted December 10 That's such a great looking bass! Love the contrast of the woods and the white Nice! Quote

But they ain't cheap. I bought this second hand so I got it at a very good price. Think Wal, Smith and basses like these. All wood is ecologically sustainable, as are glue and varnish. That's the Unicorn principle. All the instruments and speaker cabinets he builds are signed by Christian. Check the web site for info. https://www.unicornbass.se/ 2 Quote

simisker Posted December 17 Posted December 17 I hope I didn't come across as derogatory in my earlier post, because I think it's a stunner on every level. I'm just thankful I'm fully satisfied at the end of my bass-owning/GAS journey, otherwise I'd be speccing one up as we speak 😍 1 Quote
