Any BCers released a Christmas song this year?

My band have had a pretty lean time this year. We've played 4 gigs, had 2 drummers and recorded 1 song...a Christmas song 🎅🏻

A little while ago a local radio DJ asked if any local bands had recorded a Christmas song, an original song or a cover, to play on his show in December.

It kind of felt right to ask the lads to do this. Luckily our new drummer (the 4th I've played with since joining the band 2 1/2 yrs ago!) has his own studio of which we have been using for rehearsals.

Jon the singer came up with some words and our two guitarists thrashed out some riffage for me to pedal along to 😁

Over two evenings we wrote and recorded this little beauty...ok, you can really tell it was knocked together in a few hours but I kinda love that low fi thing and you just can't help but feel all christmassy when you hear Chris' solo.

Anyone else got something original in a Christmas vibe? Maybe we could do a BassChat Xmas compilation tape 😁

Even any Scrooges with an anti Christmas song are welcome!

No this year, but in 2022 one of my bands released the cover of I Believe I Father Christmas that we had been playing live for some time:

It was recently listed on the Emerson Lake and Palmer YouTube channel as one of their favourite covers.

My other band put out this original song last year:

I bought the latter through Bandcamp - it sits in a playlist alongside similar end of year music. It's inclusion in this playlist introduced me to the 'In Isolation' playlist which I'm very fond of.

Great cover of I Believe In Father Christmas @BigRedX , one of my favourite Christmas songs.

Thanks! We started playing it after being asked to perform a Christmas song as a condition of playing a live session for a local radio show 7 years ago. We did consider doing "Wombling Merry Christmas" but "I Believe In Father Christmas" was thought to be more in keeping with our image. We've been playing it at any gigs in December ever since, and it was recorded during the summer heatwave of 2022. We'll be performing it for the last time this Saturday when do our farewell gig, as singer Ryan is calling it a day, and I will also be leaving as my other band is occupying too much time for me to be in both.

December Snow is a proper earworm, that's going to be stuck in my head all day now!

Cool video too (I wish we had the time to do a video).

And thanks again! IIRC the video cost us £30 through the Fiverr website. Our singer sorted it all out. They also did the video for "Tilting".

£30! @BigRedX ...bargain. Our singer was a cameraman in Germany for many years (our song Summer Jiving is a true story from that part of his life) so you'd think we'd be all over the visual side of things but no.

Shame about your singer packing it in, I pretty much judge bands on the vocal sound and style...both songs have vocals that I enjoyed.

The Wombles have come up a lot recently, I listen to Gary Kemp and Guy Pratt's Rockonteurs podcast. Apparently there was a lot of musical talent inside those Womble costumes on TOTPs.

IMO £30 is a complete bargain for what we got. It's described as a "Lyric Video" but the animation makes it interesting enough to use as our primary video version.

On the other hand we could spend a lot more money and make a "proper" music video. I won't clog up this thread with them, but go onto YouTube and have a look at the In Isolation videos for "Trappist-1", "Not Noticing" or "The Man Who Hides From Love".

I usually produce a Xmas cover on my YouTube channel. This year, however, I'll be returning home from holidays just before Xmas. So I don't know yet....

One of my bands - Mr Apollo - did a live version of Lindisfarne's "Winter Song" for our website a couple of weeks ago. We had a great fun doing it - not perfect, but hearfelt.

Bit of brass on a Christmas song? Can't wait to hear it.

Jonah Lewie's Stop the Cavalry is another fave of mine, that brass band refrain just reeks of Christmas ☃️

Yeah - I said I wanted it to feel like market square Christmas brass band - it definitely captures that.

Its also got a bit a Pogues FTONY vibe

Just sorted the lyrics.
