Little combo/advice, please!

Recommended Posts

I need to get a small, inexpensive/cheap combo; doesn't need to have loads of power (I have loud elsewhere), just something capable/non-farty, that I can pull out at home and have a noodle on.  Something like the Trace Eliot 1x8 Elf combo sized, but not the price.  NS NXT5 EUB.

Ideas?

Dunno re models, but I'd go for at least a 10" speaker then pretty much any level of amp section will sound decent for home. For my taste the 8" equipped combos only sound decent if you're spending decent money!

Happy to be wrong on this. 👍

I've just been on the Thomann site; if nothing the ability to refine searches is a bonus.

I like the Markbass MicroMark 801 and the Boss Dual Cube LX - the Markbass is edging it for me; size being the primary mover.  It's never going to leave the house or be played at mental volumes.

I don't think you can go far wrong with the Markbass unit 👍

A GSS 06B400 Mini Bass Amp works very well with an EUB or a double bass.

There's a GSS set up on the for sale section that might do the trick (it's a bit quirky)...two cabs, each holding a 6.5" speaker.  I've just taken delivery a Baby Sumo head which I adore, so the I'd have no qualms about considering other GSS products.

It's a bit over budget and in truth I would only need half of it.

Not FS... just what i found on Gumtree/Faceache - didn't need it, but couldn't leave it at that price.

Always worth a look

Quick go over with a Jumper De-bobbler removed the badge of the front, cos it looked huge!

Nice... what do you think of it?

Same or different model, post pics.

Here we are.

It's perfect for what I need, which is just simple noodling; if I want to go louder, I can just use my regular kit...purpose here is just to have something low powered that's easy to get going.

Because the bass can be played active or passive and with arco/pizzicato modes, it's giving a broad range of things tonally already.  There only three knobs on the amp (gain, enhance and tone), things sound decent with enhance at 50% and tone rolled to the bass side of things.  It doesn't appear to have any problems with the low-B on the bass.

It looks pretty well built, solid.  Got it from a marketplace seller, still smells new.

Happy enough.
