Been looking at acquiring one of these with the intention of deheading and converting to headless  - I already have the headless 5er system. 

 

Found this video on YouTube...it's a bit disconcerting knowing that there are/ were issues that should have been resolved in Quality Control.

 

I recall seeing a couple for sale here and was wondering whether the issues were present on those owned by BCers.

That would be a great bass to make headless!

Yes, make it headless, then 99% of strings made you won’t be able to fit!

Use a clamping head end rather than a DBE one, problem solved.

Not quite! I’ve got a headless and found there’s a lot of strings that don’t like the windings being clamped and it results in the winding being pulled apart under tension. TI’s will do this, so there’s one brand you instantly can’t use. Unfortunately clamping is not the panacea it first appears to be.

No problem with Elites or Warwick strings, so that's me sorted.
