VINTAGE Hungarian 3/4 bass with hard case
£1500
Hertfordshire

Recommended Posts

Vintage solid wood Hungarian bass in good playing condition.

Believed to be from around the early to mid 1970's (so I was originally told), especially judging by the quality double bass tuners.

You can also tell the bass is old by the endpin assembly.

Sounds great & plays very nicely.

Recent work done has included a new handmade bridge, fingerboard plane & re-positioned soundpost.

The bass has had white handpainted round it to make it stand out more on stage, also lending to a "Rockabilly" or "Vintage" band type of aesthetic. The painting isn't perfect, but does really make the bass pop on stage.

The neck has never been broken, unlike many other basses of this age.

Comes with a slighy tatty but very useable hard styrofoam case on wheels.

Bloopdad, firstly, thanks for your clearly obnoxious comment!

if you knew anything about double basses you'd know typically vintage instruments from Europe don't say who the maker is.

Secondly, if you knew anything about VINTAGE double basses you'd take 1 look at the tuners & know they ARE VINTAGE & so is the bass.

Thirdly, the instrument was ORIGINALLY priced at £1400, I put the price down for a sale, it's gone back up & in the interim, prices in general have gone up.

Fourthly, I've been playing DOUBLE BASS for well over 20 years & I know what the difference is between a modern & VINTAGE instrument.

Fifthly, there's no need to comment on this thread any further unless you'd like to apologise!

.

Regards

@Bloopdad1, who knows a hell of a lot about uprights, wasn't being obnoxious but was asking questions that a prospective buyer would ask, largely because your listing isn't exactly comprehensive. For example when I think 'vintage' with double bass I'm thinking earlier than the 60s/70s, so some idea of the actual age would be helpful as I suspect you're using a different point of reference. It also looks like it's been hand painted, I might be wrong but if so it's also the sort of thing you might want to mention in the listing (who, why, is it removabl), and you might also want to explain the reference to the neck that's never been broken which I suspect promotes far more questions that it answers.

Not trying to piss on your sale, if it's a good bass at a good price it will sell anyway, but I don't think either your description or your response help in the slightest.

Hi Beedster, thanks for pointing out that you felt Bloopdad wasn't being obnoxious, & you're entitled to you're opinion, however he certainly didn't read my ad properly, particularly when I said "SOLID WOOD".

Thank you also for your positive feedback on the information in my post, whch I'm more than happy to update as soon as I get a chance.
