Don't look the ads threads then...

I don't look at any ads I just see crazy expensive basses  , IM talking like  10s of thousands of dollars for sale on some sites

The Internet is full of thieves that are real good at the fkd up cons .

I just look , I don't trust anyone trying to sell

a 10 -20 30 thousand +- dollar bass.

Who would ,  ?

Someone that has no idea how many expensive basses  ordered online are

a Chinese copy of a BASS costing thousands and thousands of dollars.

They pay a few hundred dollars and sell it online for thousands even 10s of thousands .of $ .

The Internet has All the human knowledge ever thought of.

And it has made people forget about

common sense.

There are several questions, so just trying to work out what you are really asking

Depends on the whatever, 20k rubles in $197, 20k yen is $127!

Assuming you mean enough to but that fedora, well, I wouldn't, its not something that appeals to me, so I wouldn't buy it even if it was a lot cheaper. I also am not at a place where I could justify buying a bass that was that sort of money, I wouldn't really buy a bass that my money from gigging wouldn't cover at some point - so you know, £1000 I can justify in my head in that its 8-12 gigs and I have paid for it.  Better than that, it is retrospective gigs, all my gigging money goes in a drawer, if I want to buy something I look in the drawer to see if there is enough money, and if there is, I buy it.

But, everyones justification limit is different. Some people wouldn't dream spending over a couple of hundred on a bass, some people wouldn't think twice of spending over £10,000 on an instrument that they want.

Then the final question, sight unseen. Well, it is a truth that 2 of the 4th largest amounts of money I have spent on a bass has been untouched. Once because it was a custom instrument so it didn't exist before I bought it and one because it was a long way away, and I also believed. it was going to be fine, it was.

I think if I was going to spend 15k on an instrument I would go and check it out, but then that is again down to my finances, maybe for the person who would drop that sort of money on a bass it wouldn't be worth their time.

I am also sure that even though I don't like them, they are very high quality instruments, and you probably don't get a friday afternoon fodera, I am sure that if you play one of a certain model, and then play another one it is pretty similar, they aren't made like fenders.

Also, if there is something wrong, I am in the UK, and assuming that I am buying in the UK, if something goes wrong, I can get the credit card company to sort it out!

So you've got £20 and you want a fish supper.

You've found exactly what you're looking for...

Cod and chips for...

£19.95

It's being sold by a reputable chippy

Would you buy this classic British dish, holding it, wrapped in newspaper, actually eating it with one of those wooden FORKS!

This is just my pickled onion.

👉DO IT 👈 !!!!

Granted, I would rather it was rock eel than cod and I realise my 5p change isn't quite enough to buy some mushy peas, but yes, no matter the price, because I like a few chips and a nice bit of cod, why not? You only live once.

£19.95

Reasonable at half the price and if I'm not mistaken, after the opening speech by the Vicar, I think there's a tombola, or maybe it's a raffle? I really shouldn't have had that second sherry.

That's almost certainly a fine way to spend a Saturday afternoon at the Letcombe Regis village fête

Again just my pickled onion .

I've bought/traded hundreds of instruments from pictures only. Not had any issues. Many of these have been 'boutique' instruments, and most from this forum (and most from @Hellzero!)

I certainly would not have had the capacity to view and test 99% of these in person due to them being either in different countries or 100's miles away, so I would have missed out on hundreds of fantastic instruments if I'd lived by your advice.

Do you homework, be sensible, and you'll be fine.

Please take a look at the prices of quality double basses and bows.

Difference with double basses is the amount of work that goes into one.  All that carving (and a considerable amount of material) or they're rare antiques made (allegedly) from wood of a quality beyond what is now available.   £20k for a lovely Penning or T&G Martin is pretty good value.

Electric basses are, by comparison, just fancy plywood that's been band sawn into a shape. 😉

No, I'd never pay £20k for an electric bass, and certainly not that ugly fodera.

I bought an ACG Krell without seeing it, as it hadn't been built when I ordered it.

I had played a Krell and other ACGs however, so I knew what was coming.

I guess that's true of many premium brands.

I'd buy a Wal series 2 5er on pictures alone if the price was right.

I DID buy a MK2 5er Wal off reverb without ever having seen it in the flesh or played one.  £4k tho not £13k.

Doubt I'd do it at today's prices ... though they've settled from the peak and 5ers are generally a bit cheaper than 4s.  I'd buy an ACG Krell instead 😁.
