Btw they are also selling the RCF AYRA Pro5 studio monitors for £89. That's mad for decent studio monitors that will take bass at pretty high volumes (I've rehearsed with mine) and which sound not far short of my moderately expensive hi-fi

That sounds like a really good deal Phil, thanks for the heads up! In terms of rehearsing with yours what other instruments / vox were in the studio set up and were they being separately amplified / monitored? Were you just using one of these or a pair when you rehearsed?

Great price. I did actually get mine for £85 refurbished when Behringer had their own eBay channel, but if I hadn't I would go for that, it has been a great amp - I bought it as a backup (fits fine in a gig bag pocket as a spare), and currently is what I am using as my only amp on stage

This was with my duo, two vocals, bass, guitar and a drumtrack going through a small desk into a pair of these.  In my 'study' which is probably 3mx4m the volume was around our on-stage volume at gigs and loud enough that we had to amplify the acoustic guitar when we used it.  The sound quality is stunning, certainly a match for hi-fi costing double and this is with the built in amps included.

Cheers Phil. Would one suffice for home studio mixing/monitoring and solo home practice purposes?

That’s a tricky one.

I think you have to decide that yourself. The speaker would handle bass and it has the full protection of the DSP which is probably common to all RCF stuff. A single speaker would be 6db down in volume though. I’d be mixing in stereo at home too so a single speaker wasn’t something I ever considered.

I suppose £89 for a bass combo that sounds great is a bargain though. You could drive it off your mixer or something like a Zoom.

Yeah, I think the stereo mixing is going to be the clincher here. Ah well looks like I'm in for a pair then!

Sorry Al, I'm leading you astray again. On the plus side you'll be blown away by the sound per pound ratio. :)

I still covet your new mixer though :)

Haha, no worries order placed! I've actually been thinking about upgrading my old/very budget Creative T40s for a long while, and a recommendation from you is always a positive. I went for the bundle with the stands, but had a £25 Andertons credit from the mixer you mentioned!

Re. the mixer...a mate who is also a bass player and does the sound in his band popped round last week, and at the end said that the A&H CQ desk does literally everything he would like from his (eg individual HPF per channel, feedback assistant), so you're not alone in thinking it's been a good investment!

Apologies to everyone else for the thread hijack (albeit very useful, thanks Phil!)

They also have the BH250 at £179 if you want something a bit larger but more versatile, has a Speakon, tuner and a single Toneprint knob.

The BAM200 is also available through TC's Amazon Store for the same price and from G4M for £6 more. Weirdly The TC store has the BQ250 at £286 and its bigger brother the BQ500 at £199

Depending on if you want to support Jeff Bezos's tax avoidance.

Haha, stone throwing in glass houses?

I wonder how many musicians pay the tax due on all their income? At least Bezos pays what he legally owes, even if he/Amazon are aided by certain countries (eg Ireland/Luxembourg) offering very low tax regimes.

I bet he doesn't - I bet he uses an army of very expensive accountants to work every loophole, move his company to places where he doesn't have to pay and pressure governments to reduce his liabilities.

I am betting Andertons pay a lot more tax proportionatly.

But that's the point...yes he gets the best tax advice, but he's not breaking any laws by setting up structures that minimise Amazon's tax by doing so.

On the other hand loads of us break laws every time we go over the speed limit in our cars, take drugs or don't declare all our income from gigs if, legally, we should do.

If you don't like what Amazon does, then boycott tax havens who give him and other multinationals the opportunity to avoid tax in the first place (or do you agree with Bono who says it's fine for Ireland to allow multinationals to avoid tax?)

Loopholes still exist because politicians are complicit in tax dodging, probably because their benefactors demand it. Bezos isn't breaking the law but he is a corrupt scumbag who would take your last £1 to add to his hoarded wealth. So are his enablers.

I can't really boycott tax havens though, other than not putting my millions there, which I have so far managed to do by the simple scheme of not being rich. Obviously I don't use amazon or recommend others do, but sadly I know it will have next to no impact, but it keeps me happy. I try and use stores like andertons rather than amazon, for every quid you spend there, a lot of it stays in the country and community, compared to amazon where it leaves the country and goes to sit in piles of cash in other countries (wherever his stash is), and keeps some stores going in this country. It is very hard for normal stores to compete with people who can apply the pressure amazon can, and I have seen that from inside businesses.

But I understand, most people want cheap over everything, as well as sitting there moaning how there are no local shops any more :D

Anyway, sorry for the side track, back to the original thread, the BAM200 is actually excelent, wouldn't be without mine, go and get one (only downside is if you forget your jack to speakon connection!)
