Here's the Elf and BAM, I think it's possible especially on the BAM as it has a bit more height. Was probably a cost saving measure: 2 Quote

Was probably a cost saving measure: The cost of a jack plug, pennies, a speakon, £s and once you go add manufacturer markup, distributor markup and retailer markup, the speakon could cost several £s more. There is no safety reason that you cannot use a jack at these power (actually voltage) levels. I would always advise against it but who the funk listens to me? Quote

spongebob Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 I’ve been reading up, and there seems to be a bit about the 200 getting very, very hot when pushed a little. I’m wondering about the 500, but not sure as apparently the output isn’t quite what you’d expect from a 500? Think I’m stuck with my Matkbass Fanboi blinkers on……I find it hard to stray! 😩 Quote

Yeah that's why I said it's a cost saving measure, although TC are owned by Behringer so I assume it's not saving as much as we think. For me it's a convenience issue, it's small head like that might come in handy for home use or rehearsals. Having to carry a dongle around with me or buy a different cable would mean it's much less convenient that it might seem. When I used my BH250 for rehearsals I modded it by swapping the Speakon out for a Speakon combo purely so I could take a single Speakon-Jack cable to practice and use whatever cabs were provided, that's how much I hate dongles! Cook an egg to replenish yourself by the time you finish the song. It’s a win-win for me. Edited December 17, 2024 by Pea Turgh Stoopid autocorrect Quote

One day the rep came in a told us that a new model was due. Wjat changes we asked? "no headphone socket" . The socket apparently cost 50p but the TV was £5 more expensive once it got to retail! You also have to realise that such tiny boxes cannot use speakons without sacrificing a large-ish amount of real estate. Quote

It should have been designed with a Speakon from the beginning IMO, all bass amps should. The panel mount Speakons don't take up that much room, just different dimensions really and it looks like there's free space in both amps, particularly the BAM. It's just penny pinching IMO, hopefully they do a board revision and sort it out. 1 Quote

It gets pretty warm when run almost flat out for 3 hours (certainly not very hot, you can still pick it up straight away), but that isn't really that surprising considering how small it is, but that has never seemed to cause it (or me) an issue. It is penny pinching, but as I said, I paid £85 for mine as a refurb, so that seems not an unreasonable pinch to me. I paid a lot more for my CTM100 and that had jacks. 1 Quote

neepheid Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 In case anyone was wondering if 200W is "enough", of course it depends on your definition of "enough" but for a data point, I just had a "war volume" test against my drummer at our rehearsal room - BH250, but into a single 8 ohm cab, so probably doing one hundred and something (TC annoyingly tightlipped about power output at 8 ohms). Let's just say that the master was a tickle over 12 o' clock and I was punching through no bother. Make of that what you will. I'm delighted with this result and will have another go in the future with guitarist and singer in tow also but I think there's enough headroom there. I am confident I'll have enough oomph should I ever need to press this into emergency service at a gig. 3 Quote
