If you took only 1 cab for a heavy rock gig...

I'm looking for a compact cab that could compete with 2 guitars and a heavy hitting drummer. Small clubs, pubs.

Is there a light, one cab solution, or is it x2 cabs, or 4x10, 2x12? i.e. would a Mesa subway 15 be enough? I need a cab that is clear enough if I'm DI'd for FOH, or no DI and still fill the room with low end.

I think I’d be looking at a 212 or 410 given the mention of the heavy handed drummer (and possibility of no DI), more speakers hopefully equating to a greater depth of sound.

If budget not high then Ashdown ABM410s are easy enough to come by for reasonable prices, not too heavy, and put some castors on and aside from up stairs a doddle to move around.

With a greater budget I’d probably go Barefaced 212.

Barefaced BigBaby III which is a 1x12 cab. Unbelievably loud and an easy one handed lift. alternatively, Barefaced SuperTwin which is a 2x12 cab. Again very light for its size and incredibly easy to move. Might be complete overkill for the size gigs you mentioned though.

My ‘one cab to rule them all’ is a Barefaced Super Twin.

Although having experienced the delightful vintage-y tone of the One 10, I do hanker after a Three 10, which is almost exactly the same size and shape as the Super Twin.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Barefaced sound good, they don't make a 15?

2x12 might be too big to move, I'll check the dimensions. Does anyone play the BF 2x10?

I have both the BF 2x12 and 2x10

If you’re a loud band, the 2x10 probably wont be ok for a gig without PA support. Well, you’ll be heard but not necessarily at the level you’d want to get. The 2x12 isn’t THAT much bigger and as it is so light, plus it has wheels, it’s easy to move

My amp is a Gallien Krueger legacy 800. It's a very nice amp with the GK eq from the 800rb. 800w, it's a bit overkill (and not just Lemmy).

I use my GK's with a Genz Benz NX 2x12 cab. 600W, 4 ohms, reasonably lightweight and holds it's own easily in any rock band I've ever played in (and there have been quite a few). AB'd it with some friends and a Barefaced Big Twin and all agreed that it sounded better than the BF.

Look out for a used one (will be under £450 so a bargain).

I'm starting to sound like a broken record here, but an LFSys Monaco would be worth considering, especially if you want clarity. What amp are you going to use with it?

I don't want this to descend into a fanboy flame war but as the Barefaced  battalions are already firing a lo-fi barrage........I had the 12" Monaco and now have the 10" Monza, they all think we are nuts but I agree. The Monza is a tad down on the Monaco for sensitivity so I would consider a second to be sure but one Monaco, absolutely.

On a sensible note, it's hard to be sure without knowing how loud the rest of the band are.  Talk to Alex at Barefaced, talk to our own @stevie about what you need, but have all the details ready when you do. We are all biased, but of course the Barefaced boys are more biased than me 🤣

Their first cab was a 1x15 called The Compact. I still have mine and it is very loud and definitely capable of keeping up with loud drummers. They are about £350 used if you can find one.
