binky_bass Posted Tuesday at 21:00 Share Posted Tuesday at 21:00 (edited) I've had a hankering for an 8 string guitar for a while... I saw that Gear4Music had this 'damaged' Schecter C-8 SLS MS Elite Evil Twin up for £899 instead of £1600 due to a small paint crack around the volume pot that happened in delivery from the distributor. I sent them a message and punted an offer of £600, they accepted. So it's a £1600 guitar for £600... Pretty sure having £1000 knocked off the 'new' price for the small paint crack around the volume pot counts as a good deal! The Fishman Fluence pickups and Hipshot hardward are worth that alone. Looking forward to delivery... Edited Wednesday at 17:49 by binky_bass
Shockwave Posted Wednesday at 12:15 Share Posted Wednesday at 12:15 (edited) That is a stonking deal. I didn't realise they would bend so much on what is already discounted for scratch and dent... I may need to try the same thing 😛 Did you contact them via Ebay or the website etc? Edited Wednesday at 12:16 by Shockwave
binky_bass Posted Wednesday at 12:27 Author Share Posted Wednesday at 12:27 eBay. They don't usually bend more than 5% or so on the damaged stock. I have been seriously considering an 8 string for a while and this was in the top 3, I did mention that to them and that my budget was £600 at an absolute stretch, I guess they kindly took pity on me! velvetkevorkian Posted Wednesday at 14:22 Share Posted Wednesday at 14:22 Nice! What is the scale, 28-26.5 or something?
binky_bass Posted Wednesday at 15:42 Author Share Posted Wednesday at 15:42 25.5 - 27 so should be quite easy to get around.
LeftyJ Posted Thursday at 08:44 Share Posted Thursday at 08:44 Wow, that looks impressive! The Schecters I've tried (C7 Hellraiser, C7 Blackjack) weren't for me because of their quite hefty neck profile, but they were quality guitars and looked great. I'm a big fan of that carved top Superstrat look, I had an ESP Horizon bolt-on with a very similar shape in solid black with natural ash faux bindings, and I loved how elegant it looked and how sleek it was, with a lovely, fairly Fenderish neck profile but a pretty flat fingerboard radius. Very comfortable shape.
edstraker123 Posted Thursday at 12:45 Share Posted Thursday at 12:45 What a steal ! I've got the C4 Silver Mountain bass and the Fishman Fluence pickups and electronics in it are probably the best I've had in any bass.
binky_bass Posted Thursday at 13:03 Author Share Posted Thursday at 13:03 Looks like it'll be delivered at 6pm tonight. Going to pop over to my Dad's tomorrow and borrow a smidge of one of his matt black model paints and give it a tiny touch up. It won't be perfect, but at £1000 off the list price, I think I can live with it!
binky_bass Posted Thursday at 19:37 Author Share Posted Thursday at 19:37 It has arrived... A very nice beast indeed, very well set up (and I am a fanatic about low action). The 'crack' is there, but it's minimal. A careful touch up will hide 90% of it. Given it had over £1000 knocked off for that, it indeed feels like a great buy!
