NGD: Schecter C-8 SLS MS Elite Evil Twin. A Rather Good Deal... (I think?)

I've had a hankering for an 8 string guitar for a while... I saw that Gear4Music had this 'damaged' Schecter C-8 SLS MS Elite Evil Twin up for £899 instead of £1600 due to a small paint crack around the volume pot that happened in delivery from the distributor. I sent them a message and punted an offer of £600, they accepted. So it's a £1600 guitar for £600... Pretty sure having £1000 knocked off the 'new' price for the small paint crack around the volume pot counts as a good deal! The Fishman Fluence pickups and Hipshot hardward are worth that alone. Looking forward to delivery...

eBay. They don't usually bend more than 5% or so on the damaged stock. I have been seriously considering an 8 string for a while and this was in the top 3, I did mention that to them and that my budget was £600 at an absolute stretch, I guess they kindly took pity on me!

Wow, that looks impressive!

The Schecters I've tried (C7 Hellraiser, C7 Blackjack) weren't for me because of their quite hefty neck profile, but they were quality guitars and looked great. I'm a big fan of that carved top Superstrat look, I had an ESP Horizon bolt-on with a very similar shape in solid black with natural ash faux bindings, and I loved how elegant it looked and how sleek it was, with a lovely, fairly Fenderish neck profile but a pretty flat fingerboard radius. Very comfortable shape.

Looks like it'll be delivered at 6pm tonight. Going to pop over to my Dad's tomorrow and borrow a smidge of one of his matt black model paints and give it a tiny touch up. It won't be perfect, but at £1000 off the list price, I think I can live with it!

It has arrived...

A very nice beast indeed, very well set up (and I am a fanatic about low action). The 'crack' is there, but it's minimal. A careful touch up will hide 90% of it. Given it had over £1000 knocked off for that, it indeed feels like a great buy!
