Hello all,

Recently I put up a thread about a 'person' called 'Melvin Pierce' who was flooding YouTube with what appeared to me to be AI generated content. Semi easy listening, soft focus stuff. I wasn't absolutely sure whether it was for real or not, and thought maybe I was letting my imagination run away a bit.

And now this appears - The Beatles Rubber Soul album reimagined in a Motown style. And yes, it's all entirely AI generated, and it all sounds just so authentic.

If this is what's possible right now, then I really can't imagine where will things be in another ten years time .  😵

I guess the tech is amazing, but f*** me the arrangements and 'performances' most certainly are not. I'm guessing that like pitch correction, which at first was hard to detect but after a while you can just hear it, we'll get a feel for this sort of thing also

Probably uninhabitable conditions due to climate change, economic collapse, technological failures, social unrest, and wars over the last few natural resources.

So in terms of the music you've got nothing to worry about! 😀

You hear it all the time on TV ads now. Some great old tune twisted and re-written to within an inch of its life. Going back to this, "Girl" sounds nothing like the original. I'll stick with the original.

That was much better than I was expecting it to be. Admittedly I was only listening on my phone and yeah there’s moments of oddness but blimey.

But it totally lacks the fun of making music. I love to go to rehearsals!

I hope that the advent of AI generated music will lead more people to recognise, appreciate, participate in and support real live music. Of course, we're in that awful stage where people have done things with AI because they could not because they should (not unlike the early 80's when digital sampling became easy and our group of electronic music students were doing things like the national anthem performed by a choir of barking dogs), but we will no doubt see some imaginative integration of AI and analog in time. But for me the ease with which AI can be used to generate professional sounding digital audio has pushed me away from a focus on recording (I can spoend hours doing something analog that can be done in seconds using AI), to concentrating on playing and performing live.

I found it a bit meh. The instrumental textures were well done, but the melodies were naff. Clever, but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it and certainly wouldn't pay to do so.
