*Santa bought you socks again? You wish you had a good present? This is available for one more week. Treat yourself now!*

Now, owning this does not guarantee sounding like Geddy Lee, Mani, or Andy Nicholson, but it does mean that every other bassist on the bill and in attendance at your shows will come up to you after the gig. (As bass players this is about the best we can hope for!)

For sale is this 1976 Rickenbacker 3001 in the super cool Autumnglo colour. It was my main recording bass for my first album and also made its way on to subsequent recordings. It’s currently fitted with some new groundwound strings and all set ups since I’ve owned it were by John @noiseworx.

The bass works perfectly and has a great neck. Super loud and punchy sound, often described as “a p bass on steroids”. If comes with the original case.

If you’re looking at this advert you know how rarely these come up for sale. There haven’t been any in groups or on Reverb for donkeys.

Additionally, shipping an import duty now to the UK would be a nightmare. So, here’s your chance! You’re more than welcome to try the bass in Coventry. Or, between 27 December and and 2nd Jan I could arrange to travel to meet an hour from Coventry.

Shipping would be very reluctant as the bass and case (it’s made of wood!) are super heavy. Packaging, shipping and insurance would add to the cost.

Guess one thing to say is…

Regarding part exchange: Live basses I’m in the market for and have my eye on:

Limelight, Bravewood, Fender Custom Shop, Sandberg California II, Nash, Jon Shuker, or an interesting Musicman. (I’m basically after something lighter, with a worn in neck, 4 strings…)

If you have one and are thinking of trading, I’m open to chat.

*this bass will only be on sale until 2nd January (then I go back to Germany and I’ll be keeping it/transporting it back there*

Lovely bass. I bought it from California years ago. A member of the Ricresource forum helped me to import it (the original owner wouldn’t sell/ship outside of the states!)

it was originally found to be my back up bass (I had a couple of 4003s at the time - montezuma and midnight blue) but in the end it took over in the studio. The producer preferred the sound of it in the mix and then it took over for live shows too.

Now I live (and play/record) between Germany and England. This one didn’t really make it into the last recordings (apart from one song where I put tapewounds on it and played it with an eabow for a cello like effect!)

I need to move this one on for something lighter and more adaptable for touring in England.

I did have someone message me on Facebook that had been after one, but the day I was going to sell it they bought a 4003 🤣 sods law!

I'm sure I saw a post from someone on here looking for one of these.  @ash was it you?

I was looking for a 3000 or a 3001 a few years ago. I’ve got a 3000 shortscale which is wonderful. I have owned three of these and they’ve all been fantastic sounding but too heavy for me. Great basses and in my opinion much more versatile than you’d expect from a single pickup.

Recently played a show in New Cross, London and the front man of the headline act played one of these. (The band are called The Thing and are from somewhere near New York).

Had to Google his bass, as if never seen one like it. Was apparently Rickenbacker's mid 70s attempt at a budget model, but wasn't popular and is now rare as hen's teeth.

@chriswareham what’s your band?

The Thing are cool. A friend put them on at a show on the same tour and has them coming back next summer too. I saw photos of the bass and wasn’t sure from the angle of it was a 3000 or 3001.

Still has the Ric sound, but also something quite distinctly its own.
