msb Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Some years ago I came across Jo Chiou’s YouTube channel , here was a complete tone nerd from somewhere in Quebec , comparing various tube preamps. He was also occasionally making and selling preamps , often (as so many are) using the classic B15 preamp for inspiration. He was someone that loved to take things apart and build his versions. We recently became Facebook friends. I mentioned that I had found a Demeter Minnie amp for sale in the US but after the exchange , shipping and duties it was too much. Jon messaged me and said he had built 500 watt amps based on the Minnie , and would I like to have one built … it will be done in mid January. I’m happily using a tube preamp for the front end so this is strictly back end slam. Clean , transparent power. There’s one knob … volume. Funny how things can happen just like that. 2 Quote

msb Posted December 21, 2024 Author Posted December 21, 2024 That’s the reason for it. I’ve been using the effect return channel on a Forte , which works wonderfully , I think this might be a slightly more elegant solution. 1 Quote

So far I’ve got to say he’s been an excellent communicator. He wanted to let me know there is a fan like the one in the Minnie that can be loud at quiet levels , I told him this was to be mostly used at gigs , the fan is not an issue at gig volume in a fairly noisy environment. Parts are on the way , this is a pretty straightforward design. Strictly back end clean transparent power. I’m looking forward to hauling this downtown for gigs. 3 Quote
